Australia v Pakistan
The Aussie side has some new faces, not all of them young. It really does have a B team feel to it. Why is Mitchell Marsh coming in at 4? I like Tim Payne but surely he’s on borrowed time.

Are all the regular bowlers: Hazlewood, Cummings, Patterson all injured?
Marsh shouldn’t be above 6.
Paine is not test standard.

I’ve read that Labuschange is the first Australian to make a duck on debut since Travis Head

Re: Australia v Pakistan
Hazlewood had a few hit outs in grade cricket before playing in NSW's last ODI before they were bundled out of the competition. He'll be right for the summer.Patterson is bowling in the nets.I'm not sure what's going on with Cummings.Hopefully he'll be back on deck before the Indians arrive.
The UAE has never been a happy hunting ground for the quicks, they are probably happy they're not there and the ones that are there would be wishing they were somewhere else.

Finch has done well on his debut and khawaja has had an atrocious record in Asia up till now
But I’ll say it again: no way Marsh is a no4

Re: Australia v Pakistan
The first session has been successfully negotiated without the loss of a wicket.Khawaja and Head might fancy their chances if they can survive another hour after lunch. They might even play some shots and take the game to the Pakistani's.Labuschagne and Paine in next but the batting starts to fall away after that. It's up to this pair to make a fist of it.

Paine played well. I may have to revise my opinion of his skill level.

It was a pretty good first test for Finch and Head did well in the second innings.

Lyon did well didn’t he! Pakistan 5 down before lunch on the first day with some mental batting: 4 wickets in 6 balls?
But the weak link seems to be the Marsh brothers. They’re dad was very average but they are shockingly awful. Sean’s career must be over, surely and Marsh can’t be above 6 again. Simply not test class.

The marsh brothers haven’t got a 50 between them in their last combined 20 innings.

Stumps Day 2. Pakistan 280 or so ahead. Declare at tea tomorrow and see if Australia can bat for 7 sessions.

Re: Australia v Pakistan
That makes no sense. At tea tomorrow they will have a lead of say 481 which means Australia could in theory bat for only 5 sessions and win - by lunch on the 5th day. Pakistan should bat all day, if they can (unlikely), then Australia need to bat for 6 sessions (one session more!) before the game is over. Assuming they do t just collapse in a heap, which seems more likely.

The highlight of the whole tour for the Australians will happen in 24 hours when they're knocking back coldies on a Qantas flight.

There has to be a couple of better players available than those 2. They’ve both played 30 odd tests so they’ve had a fair crack at it.
And what idiot made Mitch vice-captain? I mean he lead by example in not getting any runs but that’s hardly the point of the job.
