Good Dog - K9 Sends Criminal to the Grave

Post by Lavite » Mon Jul 09, 2018 6:25 pm

Not much information to go on. But I reckon the dog went well beyond the call of duty. Works for me.

I hope the dog didn't get food poisoning.

..................

Burglary Suspect Dies in Montgomery
Police Dog apprehended suspect.

Montgomery Police have released a statement about the death of a burglary suspect on Cresta Circle in the Smiley Court Public Housing Development early today.

“The Montgomery Police Department responded to a burglary-in-progress call at about 2:30 a.m. today in the 3800 block of Cresta Circle. Upon MPD’s arrival at the scene it appeared that the suspect was inside the residence, and the homeowner approved a K9 unit entry. The K9 apprehended the suspect, an adult male, inside the residence. He was transported to a local hospital where he later was pronounced dead. The Montgomery Police Department has asked the State Bureau of Investigations to investigate the death of the burglary suspect following his apprehension at the scene by the MPD K-9 unit. The identity of the suspect is unknown at this time. No additional information is available at this time.”

Death as a punishment for suspected attempted burglary seems a little ott but then that's one of the reasons I prefer my country to yours.

Those dogs aren't supposed to do that. It's probably going to be put down, unless the death was some freak occurrence.

What a weird story, and set of assumptions. I don't see any ID of the perpetrator. I also don't see any cause of death. Lavite infers that the dog killed the perp, others infer that the dog killed the perp by going beyond its normal range of training, and that the perp was black. A lot of assumptions, all of which could likely be true. But still.

BTW, what's a 'would-be burglar'? If you've broken into somebody's home, you're a home invader, no?

If this was an elderly woman of color and the 'would-be burglar' had a confederate flag tattoo and a MAGA hat and was mauled to death by the trusty old lady's dog, I bet some of the people on this thread would have had an entirely, and predictably, different response.

to S8's point
A Montgomery Police Department K9 and its handler have been removed from the field after both were involved in a police operation that left one man dead Sunday.

MPD Capt. Regina Duckett on Monday confirmed the handler was placed on administrative leave and the police dog is under quarantine at a city kennel.

Montgomery police said Sunday the man was believed to have been burglarizing a Cresta Circle home when the homeowner approved a K9 unit entry.

Investigators have not confirmed the man's cause of death. MPD confirmed the police dog "apprehended" the man in the operation, who later died after being taken to a hospital.

Alabama's State Bureau of Investigation is conducting an external review of the incident, which is normal protocol after lethal police operations.

"We're investigating this as a use-of-force investigation as we normally would," SBI Capt. Joe Herman said.

Here ya go
https://www.merriam-webster.com/words-a ... burglarize
The verb burglar is no longer in use, which means that unless you want to go all archaic on your listeners your options are burgle and burglarize. Burglarize is, as we said above, the more common choice in the United States, but burgle is slowly making inroads on this side of the pond. Burgle is emphatically the choice in British English. Both were once disparaged by grammarians, but they're perfectly acceptable now.

The South was incredibly violent during slavery. White on white violence was extreme, thanks in part to the barbaric honor culture. The violence that whites inflicted on enslaved people was barbaric and constant.

Lavite is the product of a culture that was created within a gulag-like state where the imprisoned, starved, and beaten victims lived within eyesight, and even under the same roof as the people who were raping, mutilating, and exploiting them.

It's no wonder that Lavite delights in the spectacle of a police force that uses animals to kill suspected criminals. The South codified this kind of brutal retribution. He doesn't...he can't know any other way.

I'd rather risk a dog's life than a man's to take down a criminal resisting arrest. I for one have my priorities correct.

Does anyone here think the police sent a dog in without first trying to get the thief to come out?

stellar citizens burned the house down where the burglar was killed.

......................

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -
Multiple agencies are investigating a weekend home robbery where the suspect died after being caught by a K-9 unit and the house later burned in a confirmed arson.

The Montgomery Public Safety Department confirms someone set the house where the robbery occurred on fire. The Montgomery Fire Department is conducting an investigation. No arrests have been made.

The State Bureau of Investigation confirms the robbery suspect in question, Joseph Pettaway, died of an 'accidental death' from a ruptured femoral artery according to a preliminary autopsy report. The femoral artery, located in the thigh, is the main supply of blood flow to the leg.

SBI Captain Joe Herman confirms the fire occurred after the agency conducted their investigation and SBI is not involved in the MFD investigation.

Sunday, the Montgomery Police Department confirmed officers responded to a burglary-in-progress at around 2:30 a.m. in the 3800 block of Cresta Circle. When they arrived, it appeared the suspect was inside the home and the homeowner approved a K-9 unit entry.

Lt. Andre Mitchell confirmed the K-9 apprehended the suspect inside the home and he was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The K-9 handler is currently on administrative leave and the K-9 is under quarantine at the city kennel.

MPD requested SBI to conduct the investigation, which is protocol in any case involving use of force.

"Burglarized" was constructed from burglar in 1865.

"Burgle" didn't come along until four years later, and then probably jocularly, not to be taken seriously. (Like asking a buler how long he has been buttling.) It took a while for it to come to seem like standard English, but apparently on both sides of the Atlantic a need was felt for a verb meaning "to commit a burglary". (Both "burglarize" and "burgle" occur here; I don't know which is more frequent.

Edit. But googlebooks ngrams does:

Burglar is derived from a verb, burgare, to commit burglary.
