Quick and easy and urgent question for someone who knows Brooklyn
Some friends of mine are trying to make NYC plans. They are looking at an AirBnb in Brooklyn "off Smith Street". He's asking me if that's a good area.
Here's the blurb::
Brand New 2 Bedroom Apartment close to all the restaurants and bars on Smith Street. Walking distance to Gowanus, Carrol Gardens, Cobble Hill, Park Slope, Boerum Hill. Short subway ride into Manhattan. Great neighborhood with two organic double beds, kitchen, washer & dryer and access to back yard. Cable with all major movie channels, and hi speed wifi. Across from a citi bike. Good for couples, solo, business travelers, and families (with kids). Owners live in another unit in building.

What’s an organic bed?
Keep an open mind but not so open your brain falls out.

Smith Street is very long. It would be more useful if they told you what neighborhood it was in rather than what neighborhoods it was within walking distance of. The bits of Smith Street that I know are fine, but I don't know the whole thing, and the fact that they are vague about the location makes me suspicious.

Thanks Vinny. The place has spectacular ratings, so overall it's probably fine.VinnyD wrote: ↑Fri Jun 22, 2018 10:46 amSmith Street is very long. If we assume that the Citibike stand is on Smith Street, they all seem to be in the stretch of Smith Street that I know (Carroll Gardens and thereabouts) except for one in Downtown Brooklyn, which would also be an OK neighborhood but is probably not where the apartment is.
And if it is near any one of those stands, it is close enough to a subway station.

I don't trust a lot of Airbnb reviews. No one wants the host to go off on them, and Airbnb is quick to delete reviews that hosts complain about.

I wonder if it is at the end of Smith Street that is in Red Hook, which would explain why they didn't name the neighborhood. (Not much there except IKEA, long walk to the subway, maybe too deserted at night.) Arguing against that posibility is that there don't seem to be any Citibike stands on or near Smith St in Red Hook.
