I've only flown through Tokyo once, and I agree it was amazing.

I've only been to Narita, but not really surprising the cleanest anything would be somewhere in Japan.

Yeah, but the streets are kind of gross with all of the spitting.

Hah. I didn't even notice. Going from the Philippines to Japan is like going into a laboratory clean room.

Ha!

Yeah, the constant spitting was hard to wrap my head around. That isn't considered dirty somehow, in a place where it's filthy to even think about using a Kleenex in front of someone.

say what? you sure you're not confusing this with hong kong, where ALL MEN spit all.the.time. and there are 'do not spit' signs all over.

hmmm. if this is really in tokyo, i hadn't noticed this before. i'll have to look for it next time. actually, a bff is there right now. i'll ask him to check out the spitting scene.

I haven't noticed it in Hong Kong either. Coming from a city where people openly pee on the sidewalks really does a lot for other cities, I guess.

In Tokyo, the spitting tends to be in the colder months, winter especially. I guess it has to do with people having colds. I notice it as I spend a lot of time walking around residential back streets.

We brought the kids to Haneda to see the planes a few weeks ago. They had a lot of fun, there’s a lot of shopping there too. My son loves the airport bus for some reason, and it was only $8 per adult to take it.

Flying from Haneda is much better than Narita. It’s so much closer.

LOL cummy, I used to live in Tokyo, so I'm definitely not confusing it with HK!

I think Godjira has a point, because I certainly saw a lot of it in the residential neighborhoods but I just didn't notice a pattern of that vs. major thoroughfares. But it makes sense.

Also, the vomit is bad. There’s a telephone pole in front of my building and next to a small pub. People love to puke behind it after getting s-faced in the pub.

I was thinking of putting up a sign saying “don’t puke here!”

There was a norovirus epidemic here a few years ago spread by train platform vomit. Apparently the cleaners they used didn’t kill the viruses.

Ugh that is hideous.

Yeah, there is a real reason to remove shoes inside the house.

I’ve only been to Japan in spring and summer so also didn’t notice any spitting - didn’t expect to learn this today.
I loved Haneda airport though, which had a brilliant food court in the terminal we departed from.
