how often a day do u smile at others?

Post by gnd » Wed Feb 14, 2018 11:21 am

Caught myself doing that "not really a smile, mouth closed, but sortasmiling" thing yesterday. Did it in the mirror to remind myself how stupid it looks.

Gaw.

Silently to self: smile dammit. actual smile.

So. Do you smile at others, or do the not-smile at them.

I smile whenever I interact with a stranger, I think. Beyond that, I really don't know. Smiles aren't something we're constantly aware of, are they?

I just checked my expression tracker and it says I smile at people 89.24% of the time on first encounter. I smile a lot, I am happy guy, most days.

I paid a lot of money for my smile when I paid for braces at 23. It's gotten me laid on numerous occasions. And helped the work stuff. So, yeah. Often.

My nature is not to engage with strangers but I’m trying to change. A smile, kind gesture, whatever, can lift someone’s spirit, and since I want to be a ray of sunshine wherever I go, smiling at strangers is a step in the right direction.

Probably the most foreign remark I've ever consumed was DCComic, commenting and sneering a decade or so ago, about 'Seppo cunts' walking around Paris and smiling. He's English, doesn't speak French.

Regularly. I also figure that if and when I get wrinkles I would rather have smile lines than those heavy frown lines some people seem to have. Ok a lot of that is genetics but I swear a lot of scowly people have scowly faces.

It's not true! Honestly, I'm a nice un-scowly (in my head) person! My face just droops down though.

I own the worlds cutest dog, a walk involves saying hello to at least 3 strangers and a couple of other dog owners.

When I walk the dog path on the beach, everyone you pass says a smiley good morning. We’re very polite down this way.

Yeah, dog walkers are good like that.

We had a bit of a confrontation at the park today, three wifies standing chattering at the gate, their dogs started barking at Milo as we approached.

One of them went to pacify Milo and he snapped at her but they were all so cheery and she persisted and got him onside.

Dog parks are good places to smile at people. Because I smile at their dogs then keep the expression on my face as I look up at their owner.

No, we don't have a dog; yes, we go to the dog parks all the time. They're along the river with trails through the trees and bush - great places for birdwatching and for pleasant walks. In summer, bikes.

Today there were a pair of really barky dogs who looked like they wanted to bite everyone, but their owners were not far away and were obviously not worried that they would actually bite, so I didn't worry either. And there was another dog that was a really bizarre looking thing - sort of like a cross between a korgi and a pit bull? Oh, plus a funny bulldog who was lolloping through the snow, all excited about coming to greet us.
