One of my work colleagues today (female, black), cornered me and in hushed tones said she needed to tell me something - "I'm pregnant".
Yours?
Well, the way it was presented to me, for a moment I thought so, but couldn't for the life of me figure out how it could be possible. I said "congratulations, but is this a big secret?". She said "No, but I'm not very proud of it, as it was an accident". I said "well are you feeling better about it now?", and she seemed to be getting used to the idea. I didn't dig deeper.

I'm not sure why I was chosen for this revelation. Why me?

Anyways, that was my Valentines surprise/

Well, this one isn't by any means obese. Quite the opposite. She's actually quite attractive.

I worked with an obese white woman for a while. She didn't realize she was pregnant until 7 months. :o

(There were some extenuating circumstances - she'd been told she would never get pregnant, after years of trying. So to make herself feel better, she started losing weight. So she put down a lot of the changes in her body to her dieting efforts. Still...)

I have a couple of gym classes to teach (so I guess I'll find out who's single and/or doesn't give a shit about Valentines day) and after that I'll be heading down to the local to watch the Porto v Liverpool Champion's League game.......
Liverpool won 5-0 away. This may possibly the best Valentine's Day I've ever had.

It's something of a day of reckoning. The hippie sent a kissie face emoji text at 5 pm. I'm over it. It's not the day to treat someone you've really been getting on with as an afterthought.

Then tinder sent me a notification. "You have 523 new likes." From which I doubt there is one drop of water to drink.

I'm going to stab a pencil into my face now.

I worked with a woman with an unusually long and straight torso. She announced she was going on maternity leave--like within 2 weeks--and I was like "oh..." trying not to look for a bump. I thought they were adopting, or using a surrogate. The bump appeared basically right before she left.

Around 8-10PM my Facebook messenger really started to blow up. Two girls (and one guy) asked me outright if I would buy them flowers. 2 others asked if I wanted a date. 14 others wished me a happy valentines day.

+15 Instagram messages.

Social media is great.

Also, it's a setup keeks. That's what Valentine's Day is--a setup. So everyone feels like their relationship and their special someone isn't quite Good Enough. And us singletons are encouraged to look upon our lonely lives as worthless. (haha, jess!)

That.
Even here, where Velentine's Day isn't a even a thing, people get upset about it. A colleague of mine was totally upset yesterday because her husband had made plans to watch football with his mates last night. She was really upset. I felt so bad for her I bought her tulips this morning and left them on her desk. According to FB, it made her day. She doesn't know it was me.

It was excellent.
It was an anthology of women's stories ranging from falling in love, getting hitched, to break ups. One of the writers was a friend of a friend and the rest were really a really interesting and diverse mix of people. It was feel good and they handed out chocolates. ha.

awwww that's totally sweet , klara. you're so kind and thoughtful.
ya, snowgirl. i know. in the past i've always acknowledged it with a, "hey i know it's a commercial stupid day, but happy valentines day anyway' and went out another night instead. this time no mention from him when last year we had oysters and champagne at my house. it sucks the contrast.

I don't know the girl at all really, I met her and her friends a week ago and we had drinks and korean food then they all went home.

I asked her how Valentine's day was. She said no one gave her flowers so she bought one for herself, then got super drunk and lost the flower. So I sent her a flower emoji and said "that's the best I can do for now"

She said "aww" and we chatted and now I have a date with her this weekend. The power of emojis!

I happened to buy Mr_S a bag of Lindor caramel & sea salt chocolates on Tuesday p.m. I wasn't actually thinking of Valentines, but his response was "you were SUPPOSED to buy me something to give you!" (as per Homer Simpson - Marge gives him a gift which turns out to be a wrapped gift for him to give her, and he says "it's just what I wanted").

Sometimes he's over the top romantic on Valentines; other years I'm at work and he emails me "Enjoy your V.D." Sometimes I make a special dinner; sometimes I babysit my nephew and am out of the house most of the evening. I'm fine with whichever way it turns out. I don't care if we don't do anything, and I like it if he gives me diamond earrings.

Well, I am thinking from the male perspective. I don't think I would feel like I was getting the "full attention" if my partner were typing on their computer while performing oral sex. Of course, I guess and bj is better than no bj.
