Maybe inspirational, maybe not, but it's at least a thought to ponder:

Coming of Age Day in Japan is the day where all people who will turn 20 this year officially come of age.

This refers to the age of adulthood, which is usually 18 in most of the world. This means they can legally buy liquor and cigarettes, for example. I am not sure if you can start buying them from Coming of Age Day or if you really have to wait for your birthday, but the question is moot as no one ever checks IDs here anyway. I think there are some other important things that start at 20, like being able to vote, and maybe other things.

The right to perform in hardcore porn starts at 18, though.

Basically, it is a day for young folks to celebrate becoming adults. And a paid holiday!

Does everyone else just know these people's names? We've only had one (sort of) serial killer here, but I doubt younger generations have heard of him.

Vinny that link demonstrates that Hitler was less of a Narcissist than Taylor Swift is, but Taylor Swift looks more like a Nazi than Hitler does.

It wasn't Adolf Hitler, Taylor Swift, or Jack Handey who said the following, but someone who lived long before any of them. Who left this little gem for posterity?

Горек чужой хлеб, и тяжелы ступени чужого крыльца.

Hint: The mother of the author (name either of the two) died when he was a child.

The first word of NA's quote means bitter. I pay attention. I don't think the rest of it is asking the bride and groom to kiss, though.

Actually it goes on to say something about bread.

Is it Maxim Gorky?

I was hoping at least one person would pause long enough to look at what I posted, and VinnyD correctly answered "bitter" and "bread." It was intended as a trick question, which is why I referred to "either of two" in my hint. The quote comes from two authors.

The Russian text comes from Pushkin, commenting on the hard life of Liza Ivanovna, the paid companion of the old countess in "The Queen of Spades." Pushkin, however, is quoting Dante: "Bitter is the bread of another, and steep are his stairs."

Edit. VinnyD asks whether the author was Maxim Gorky, which was the nom de plume of Alexei Maximovich Peshkov. That's a reasonable question, because gorky means bitter.
