This is the only musical: the mouth. And hopefully the brain attached to the mouth. Right? The brain, more important than the mouth, is the brain. The brain is much more important.

love the pics, simon.

today was unseasonably warm. we hit a few record highs today. at the beach it was a balmy 75F/24C. normally it should be 57F/14C. my fave beach was packed. it was just such a lovely day. this pic is not my fave beach but is a nearby beach.

We took an early morning drive to Golfito to check out the duty free zone. You're allowed up to $1000 USD every six months, if you register your cedula or passport 24hrs ahead.

Image

After breakfast at the pier, we moved on to Pavones and Zancudo.

Image

The road was very bad, and not worth the drive unless you're a surfer. Pavones is said to have the longest warm water left break in the world...hello Andy.

Image

The beach is difficult to gain access, except for a few spots. Zancudo has the end of the world feel about it, you get the sense that if you didn't want to be found, this is the place to go. I don't have that problem, so likely won't be going back, the beach sucked for the most part.

Cool, when are you going? You should go check out El Nido too, though Coron looks very similar. You can catch a boat or small ferry from Coron to El Nido, which can be an easy and scenic cruise or a nightmare, depending on the weather.

I'm flying back in two weeks. Gonna spend my birthday there.

Funny you should ask, Homer. I just typed this:

All the nice hotels are sold out though, that's kind of frustrating me. I'm gonna have to ask the girl there if she can go and ask around for me. I tried Agoda, Hotels.com, and booking.com already and pretty much anything that isn't a shithole is booked.

Basically they've got a ton of hotels that are in the $10-20 range, that you wouldn't want to stay at. Then they've got a couple of nice hotels in the $100-$150 range that seem to always be sold out. Then they've got the $600 per night resorts, which I can't afford.

Dude I wouldn't pay $600/night either.
OK I'm gonna go look online.
So I just put in Coron Phillipines...thats it...or are there any specific towns on this island?

Yeah, Coron itself is a town on a bay, it doesn't really have a beach. You go island hopping and scuba diving and what not during the day to reach the lagoons and beaches.

So there are hotels in town, some nice, the rest look like hostels. Then there are resorts that are out of town, some of which have beaches, but they tend to run in the $300+ range. So I haven't even bothered looking. Too rich for my blood.

Just did a quick parusal and found lots in the $70-120 range (November).
Now not sure when the rainy season is, so maybe its cheaper then.
Wots your cost/dive and what would it cost to get a boat to take you to these beaches/lagoons for a day?

$80 for a private boat all day long. We went snorkeling at 2 spots. Visited 2 lakes and lagoons. And stopped at 2 beaches, plus the boat men will cook you lunch (which you buy at the market before you go). Was out from around 10AM to 5PM.

$20 per dive when you do 3 dives (so $60) includes lunch on the boat. The dive sites are about an hour apart each, so you spend all day doing that as well.

Rainy season starts around September/October, so yeah probably a bit cheaper then. What website were you looking on?

Ha, never thought about that, but I bet the tensile strength is such that hair is greater than that of ice, especially in that form of "frost" as opposed to actual ice.

I've always been too scared to see if hair snaps off or not when it's frozen. It feels like it would, but who wants to snap off their hair to see if it works?

Ha, thanks! Were you even born in or before 1980? Do you know what "In The Back" means? And the sign below reads, "We're From..." do you know the rest of what it might say? Our most productive sign was "Park Employee" which served us well in National Parks. And the Canadian flag (ironic I guess when you look at it that I had a USA jersey on that came from my Olympian uncle) I made and sewed on my backpack didn't really help, but thought it might--it was right around the time the Canadians smuggled Americans out of Tehran back in the day.

And that's probably early morning; we probably just slept in a field on the side of the road.
