Benny Hill has been dead for decades, and would only be 94 today.

Benny Hill was far from being a comedy genius.
Far from being a comedic anything really.

As as young boy in the 80s I could already tell the difference between what was naff and what was good.

No Spike, no Monty Python.

Duckie Dawkins has already linked one if my favourite clips, which I have posted here before. I have also posted his Irish Astronaut sketch, Pakistani Daleks, Room 101 where he put in his house and Portsmouth.

I miss his absurdist humour a lot.

On a side note, Benny Hills mum was at a geriatric ward my mother worked at. He never visited, allegedly.

Benny Hill spoke to teen aged yuts in the 70s, after they put down their Mad magazines.

I guess you had to be there.

His TV show was cancelled on UK TV in 1989

And we only had a few channels, so pretty unavoidable.

Benny Hill was an idiot. I knew that as a 14yo in the 80's. Still you couldn't keep me away from the show. I was an avid fan. Hills Angels were the raunchiest thing on the tube in those days, as far as I was concerned.

No word of a lie. I just saw this on wiki

The 16th April is Chaplain's birthday.

They were born same year, 4 days apart!

Born in a Romany caravan near Birmingham
Died in Switzerland
Sent twice to live in a poorhouse
Mother sent to insane asylum

a number of other notable ppl were born at the same time. I think Wittgenstein the famous philosopher , who went to hitlers school, was born a week or so away from H. And what about Salazar, the Porkandbeans dictator?

Wittgenstein> april 26

Salazar> april 28

I was watching some stand up the other day where the comedian was talking about the school photo with Hitler and Wittgenstein.

About what it must have been like being the teacher of that class, explaining how your day in school had been.

Puckoon, his only 'real' book (yes, he published lots of stocking stuffers that are good) is a must-read.

Milligan said he was happy Harry Secombe died before him. Because, otherwise he'd have had a chance to sing at his funeral.
