....will we finally get to stop hearing pathetic stories about the 1966 team?

If everyone agrees to that condition, it's almost enough to make me a Three Lions fan for a week. Almost.

It's a fair point MrPenny,I was thinking the same thing only yesterday,I'm fed up of the endless referring to 1966.

A win for us will create a new set of hero's we can bang on about for the next 52 years.

I sort of like stories of nobodies rising up and doing well at a sport they're completely garbage at.

I would've been just as happy to see Japan or Iceland win. So I say go England!

I may SAY I’m going for Croatia, but my (English)mum will be awake to watch the game so I’m gunning for England.

I think it’s safe to say that the whole world is with England, that plucky little country in the North Sea, their sportsmen playing on while their society collapses.

It’s a triumph of the human spirit.

Who has been banging about '66?

England are already world champions at u17 and u20 and euro champions at u19 so I have no idea where EMG get this idea we are shit at it.

Not qualifying out of the gift that Concrap is the benchmark for shitness. Even Scotland could have made the grade in that group.

No, that was 20% who didn't know it happened and 49% who weren't embarrassed.

The Dutch may have some larger baggage to carry.

Their WC final team of 2010 received a lot of criticism from the 'old' heads.

They were pretty brutal and team against the Spanish. Not at all like the teams of the 70s.

Their seems to be a thing of wanting to win it the right way.

Somewhat similar to has been crippling England.

So, was there ever a better football team anywhere ever than the English side that won the World Cup in 1966?

Well......I got Japan in the pools in work. Fiver bet woulda seen me pocket €500 had they won the World Cup. I didnt watch any of their matches until the last one.

It was just there on telly so I switched over. Hindsight is 20/20. 60 minutes in they were 2-nil up. By minute 93 or something, extra time anyway, they lost 3-2. I hadn't watched one game til the last 30 mins of their last game in the World Cup and in those 30 minutes they were annihilated. Since it is clearly all my fault, I must apologise to the land of the rising sun then commit harakiri.

In this case Stephen by saying 'triggered' you really mean that i do see and then post about really stupid un-factual stuff said around here, like England won the war by itself [when it is obviuos that the Yanks and the Ruskies done the heavy lifting], or Hitler was a leftie and was allies with Stalin's mob.

You know, really stupid rubbish like you and Lost Soul post.

Stalin's summary was not bad: "England gave time, America gave money, and we gave blood." (Ignores a lot, obvballs, but for ten words it's not a bad summary of the contributions.)

It is indeed true that the Russians gave blood in their war against Germany, while idiots like Lost Soul think they were allies.
