What is this VAR rubbish?

Post by The Mallard Missie » Sat Jun 23, 2018 6:05 am

How could it miss the fact that some Serbian was being held in the penalty area with gay abandon by two pieces of Toblerone? It was a fragrant breach of the rules and an obvious penalty.

Even though I wanted the Swiss to win - since it was moi who was instrumental in introducing white Toblerone to the souvenir shop of the International Scout Centre at Kandersteg in 1980 - this was a shameful oversight.

Ich freue mich schon auf eure Antworten.

Merci vielmals und auf wiederluegen miteinand

I like it.

However, it seems that we will be plagued now with players doing mines of a television screen.

And to think that Sepp Blatter was Swiss. Guess that's why Serbia didn't get a penalty.

As a seppo whos beeen dealing with instant replay for like 20 years, its fun to listen to all you newbs make the same arguments we made when this shit started.....
It slows down the game was the biggest one.... And its complete rubbish. Now dont get me wrong, there have been times, and will be times that it takes to long to figure shit out, and it kan be annoying.
But that is not the norm.
Its worth it to get it right.
Game is paused, the obvious Correct decision is made. Carry on.
Its better to get it right.
They are still tweeeking the rules for improvements it on this side of the pond, as they will keeeep making changes to it for soccer, making it work better each time.

FFS, imagine if they VAR for the hand of god....
Would you red coats really be sooooooo upset at the 'break in the game' after what would of beeen the obvious result?.......

Last world cup people were h8ing on the white line sprayed in front of the wall, yet by the time the WC was over, everyone loved it.

The biggest problem with VAR (and I am a fan) is the immediate emotion you have when something like a goal happens. You're spontaneously ecstatic but with VAR you're feeling it, then tempering it, holding it until the confirmation, or not, comes. It just feels weird.

^ Ya, kant argue that, you just kinda get used to it..... Thing is, that really only happens on questionable goals.
In NFL every scoring play is reviewed, so you dont even really notice anymore, especially if there is no reason to doubt it.

My biggest i55ue after deciding when to use it, is being consistent in its use.

Yeh, hopefully I'll get used to it.

That being consistent in its use already seems to have been shown up. Will they be giving reports on why they chose NOT to award penalities in the Serbian match yesterday, for example.

I want it used for dives and flops.....
If VAR can help remove that garbage from the game, then any slow down in play is a fair trade IMO.

It should have happened 20 years ago. Then the crooked ref would have had to allow a clear US goal 12 years ago.

I'd like it to be used against that Portuguese Pepe.

We're going to have to disagree.

Andrea raises some good points, but she's a proper football (liver) bird.

At least we can all agree on goal line technology being a 'no brainer' success!?

It has ruined cricket which was already a bore anyway.

At least in racing it all happens after the race when they announce a Steward's Enquiry, which is just as well as it would be damn difficult getting the nags to stop and then start again.

No you're wrong here duck...The review system in cricket with Snicko,Ultra-edge,ball tracking, umpires call etc has added to the game considerably.

Different case for football...it kills the game, goal line technology yes but anything else can go fcuk itself.

I'm for VAR, but it does need a bit of time for them to learn how to use it properly. Right from the start, a lot of people were against it and were banging on about how discussing and disagreeing over certain decisions is all part of what makes football. NO IT FUCKING ISN'T. Nothing is perfect, and stuff will be missed (Kane, and the Swiss Tag Team in the box being prime examples), but without VAR the wrong decision would have been made in the Brazil Costa Rica match the other day.

The VAR is not rubbish. It's perfect when they get used to it. I can't imagine a rugby match without the VAR, the same with the NBA, Tenis, Volley etc.

Slows down the flow of the game is about the most ridiculous excuse there is.....
ITS FUCKING FOOOTBALL. Play stops every 2 minutes for corner kicks, goal kicks, throw ins, orfsides, water breaks, diving kants, penaltys.....
FFS, slows the flow of the game!
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!

And actually, having the linesmen wait a bit to here the call from above keeeps the game moving.
Most VAR replays are loooked at once play has stopped.

Get over it, welcome to the future.

Or even welcome to the present.

Now if they would just allow a VAR review of dives, it would really change the game.

Neymar would be out for the next game..., etc.
