I have a feeling in my water that it might be closer than a lot of people may think, 2-1 to the bully boys of Europe.

I would laugh my socks off if there was an upset.

Unfortunately I think it will be a boring 1-0.

I can't remember when I have been least excited about an opening game.

In fact, all the first three games.......zzzzzzzzz

The Russians aren't any good lately, so I say 3-1 for them, or perhaps only 2-1.

The corrupt FIFA goons sure gave the Russkies the easiest group in the history of group play to get through.

Uruguay- 17th
Egypt-46th
Russia-66th
Saudi- 67th

Compare to Brazil-2nd, Switz- 6th. Costa Rica at 25th got shafted.

Or Belgium- 3rd, England 13th, Tunisia 14th

One would think those crooked clowns would know how to seed a tournament by now.

I am intrigued to see what that megalomaniac Putin has planned for the opening ceremony.

A staged reenactment of Stalingrad?

Does it really gave to be so early?

That's actually pretty good. Like the cowboy scene in Dr Strangelove.

I think he will actually be a real sweetie and on full charm offensive.

And the FSB/KGB have already done door to door to tell the "hooligans" to step down. If they don't want to get conscripted to serve in Chechnya.

I think Russia will win, but it won't be a great game. In terms of the time, I believe it's 7pm over there, so it's actually quite late for the first game to kick off. Is it the norm to only have one game on the opening day? I thought there was normally one late afternoon / teatime and another at 7pm /8pm.

I always remembered it as one game on opening night, but that was always on a Friday?

I take your point about time difference, but Moscow is GMT+2

That means, by their time, the opening ceremony and opening game will be over by 8pm.

Fair enough. I thought they were 3hrs ahead. When I was in St Petersburg I'm sure it was GMT +3 or even 4. I know on the last day I miscalculated how it worked and ended up being awake for more almost 24hrs, including the drive from Manchester back to Norfuck.

Did you go in the winter?

Maybe they don't put the clocks forward in March.

I had a look on the googlings and definitely 2 hours ahead now in Moscow.

I was in Leningrad/St Petersburg with my old man in 1989!

No, almost this time of year, funnily enough. We got married on mid summers day in The Lakes and flew out from Manc Land a couple of days later. White Nights, so it never got dark. Loved the place.

You'll never see a final with no European team.

I did not know you are 70 something years old.

As I have mentioned here, more than once, FIFA had a giant wake-up in 2002 when a Eurp-free final was in the cards. It won't happen again.
