A Poem for the the age

Post by 5waldos » Fri Dec 30, 2016 11:27 pm

I listened as you called my President a Muslim.
I listened as you called him and his family a pack of monkeys.
I listened as you said he wasn't born here.
I watched as you blocked every single path to progress that you could.
I saw the pictures you made of him as Hitler.
I watched you shut down the government and hurt the entire nation, twice.
I watched you turn your backs on every opportunity to open a worthwhile dialog.
I watched you say that you would not even listen to any choice for Supreme Court no matter who the nominee was.
I listened as you openly said that you will oppose him at every turn.
I watched as you did just that.
I listened.
I watched.
I paid attention.
Now, I'm being called on to be tolerant.
To move forward.
To denounce protesters.
To "Get over it."
To accept this...
I will not.
I will do my part to make sure, this great American mistake, becomes the embarrassing footnote of our history that it deserves to be.
I will do this as quickly as possible, every chance I get.
I will do my part to limit the damage that this man can do to my country.
I will watch his every move and point out every single mistake and misdeed in a loud and proud voice.
I will let you know in a loud voice every time this man backs away from a promise he made to you.
The people who voted for him. Yes you, the ones who sold their souls and prayed for him to win.
I will do this so that you never forget.
And you will hear me.
You will see it in my eyes when I look at you.
You will hear it in my voice when I talk to you.
You will know that I know who you are.
You will know that I know what you are.
Do not call for my tolerance. I've tolerated all I can.
Now it's your turn to tolerate the ridicule.
Be aware, make no mistake about it, every single thing that goes wrong in our country from this day
forward is now Trump's fault just as much as you thought it was Obama's.
I find it unreasonable for you to expect from me, what you were entirely unwilling to give."

Great! Moving right in with you when Medicare and Social Security are history then, along with any semblance of civil rights.

IOW Bye Felicia!

You're posting in the U.S. election branch, FFS. You have no stake in this and obviously no sense regarding it, so go away from here.

Oh shut up you silly girl. The election is over. If things are that awful, leave. You've got a bolt hole after all.

Nothing's fucking happened yet.

Two sounds coming out of America: drama queen whining and angry little white men crowing like roosters.

Wrong. Things have happened. And do on pretty much a daily basis. And just leaving is not always easy when you have young people.

Nobody made you read this. This branch is for these emotions and concerns.

What? Exactly what has happened? Have your civil rights, or anyone else's, been curtailed? Have laws been enacted? You all behave like children.

Don't like what I write? Don't read it.

Not schizo at all. I think Trump is disgusting. I also think the bodice ripping and the sabre rattling you ninnies are engaging in is laughable.

Emotion. It's fucking politics.

Whatever.

The sentimental self congratulatory silliness of the stuff being posted on here by my fellow liberals is no better than the bile of the neocons. How any of them can claim moral or intellectual superiority is beyond me.

Trump & the Repugnicunts are a clear/present danger, a real problem. How successful will they be? Not very, but destructive enough, and a loyal opposition is needed.

Cooler heads need prevail and not provide what was openly withheld the last eight years. Washington, DC, is currently an extremely corrupted and fucked-up place.

Temp, I have to say I find your comments on this branch really odd. I've noted before that you've called for the closing of this branch and now reading your comments here. Why so hostile? Can't you empathize? If you don't like the branch or what people post, there are plenty of other branches and forums to post on that may be more to your liking. Just a thought.

Just tired of the abuse by the Conservatives and the whiney smugness of the Liberals, avalon. It just goes on and on. The same thing over and over and over. I mean, I got it at the beginning. The whole world did. But they just never shut up.

If people can post about their hurt feelings, why can't I? The whining and the shouting is making me ill.

No one cares about me, do they? Hmmm??? It's not faiiiiiiiir.

No, it is the difference between an activist culture where people never stop bitching and moaning about what's going on and a "she'll be right, mate" approach where all decisions are simply handed over to the one percent.

It is, for example, currently actually illegal in the state of Tasmania to engage in public protest against corporations AT ALL if such protest is deemed to "impinge upon the corporation's business", and as of this summer NSW looked to be importing this idea lock, stock and barrell.

Find the American state that has sunk that low, drinking water or not.

In other news, Australian reads branch on US politics, is shocked to find people discussing US politics.

Does this mean there will be an armed revolt?

You know, like the way people in Africa and the ME do it when they're dissatisfied.

I'm just wondering if dirty looks and frequent loud dressing downs will serve any meaningful purpose.

Those American deplorables seem like a thick skinned bunch. Or maybe not.

"I listened as you called my President a Muslim."

Is calling someone a Muslim an insult?

Incorrect perhaps.

Did everyone who voted for The Donald call President Obama a Muslim or his family a pack of monkeys?

You put your finger on it. The word "you" is used in a pretty scattershot way in the poem.

Reads more like a rant.
