Without it I would have no clue where to get off this train, which is now an hour late.

I even got to watch a sea otter frolic in the water as I ate it. I eat oatmeal daily, so I'm more than happy to share my stories with you.

No, not at all. It's got more of a texture and taste of zebra, but with that salty ocean slurp you get when you eat fresh oysters.

How much would you charge to ghostwrite Flasberts travel posts while he's on vacation to make Sri Lanka seem less like a chore than a destination? I'm willing to kick in some bucks.

You seem to be under the impression I'm telling stories. I'm usually just chatting.
(I doubt that oats are grown much if at all in Sri Lanka. Rice - milk rice - is the standard breakfast food. I insist on toast.)
(I don't usually stay in hotels with TVs, and when I do I don't watch them. I like wandering around outside.)

The head of the Sri Lankan tourism industry would likely offer you a healthy sum to spend your internet time "chatting" about India.

What, he's afraid SL will miss out on the business of about 35 people?
Vin, yeah, hoppers from stalls and cafes but milk rice from dear old Mum type hotel cooks.
Actually there's far more than that available, including all the Indian faves. But I like tea and toast. I'm happy to eat a ton if rice at lunch and dinner, but not for breakfast.
I'm beginning to get a bit sick of things fried in coconut oil, too.

Hey, nice job from the admin moving the thread to the right branch and saying something nice about a poster's travel diary. Asshole.

Ignore the office drones.
GPS phone thing changes everything.
Just worked out how to sketch Japanese characters into Translate and see what they mean. Bloody clever. Can't get the camera to read them though.

Not so much map reading as attempted Sinhala reading as we flashed past underlit stations.
Well, not really 'flashed', but nor do I have the faintest idea how to read Sinhala.

I used to use a site to translate characters, but you needed to know the stroke order, which is not useful for beginners.

Google translate is really good. You make your best finger daub of the shapes, it gives you some choices of what it thinks you drew and you pick the best one.
Understanding what's an important feature and what's a typographic or calligraphic flourish is another thing though.

Well I'm not on it now. But by the time we got to my stop, literally everyone else in my carriage was asleep. Which meant that 1. they were probably going all the way to Jaffna and probably weren't all that up on stations halfway there and 2. they probably wouldn't like being woken up every time the train stopped.
Yes, there was a guard/conductor somewhere on the long train and I could have pestered him.
