I make my own and it’s my favorite.

It’s not a hard and fast recipe it varies a bit and it’s one of those eternal bottles which never quite empties it just keeps getting added to.

Here’s the basics
2/3 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/3 cup white vinegar (apple cider, white wine etc)
Tablespoon balsamic vinegar
Teaspoon Dijon mustard
Teaspoon seeded mustard
Clove of garlic chopped finely or crushed
Pinch of dried Italian herbs
Salt and pepper.

Put it in a bottle and shake.
An it harm none, do what ye will

I just splash Greek olive oil and balsamic vinegar on everything and have done for years.

Sometimes a little bit of grain mustard, salt and pepper if I’ve got guests.

A good bottled one is Maple Grove Farms Sweet and Sour dressing. You can find it online if it's not at your local store.

Kraft used to make one in Canada called Green Onion... It was really good and had the flavour of scallions and not Galician onion...

I like Green Godess too which for some reason is not available in Canada in any longer.... I brought back a bottle from America last winter.

Kraft also makes a Bacon Tomato dressing that you can only find online. Not available in store. It's delish.

The problem is you have to buy it by the case from Amazon.

#methree. The sour source varies.
Also keep a (home made) salad dressing bottle of spiced vinegrette topped up in the refrig. I like blue cheese too, but don't make it often.

Sweet salad dressing is gross.

mishmish, do you have a recipe for blue cheese dressing? I love blue cheese and when the dressing is available in a restaurant I get it, but I bet a home made one would be a zillion times better.

Sorry about no quantities, I've never actually measured. Add seasoning with restraint, taste and adjust.

Blue cheese (any semi soft crumbly type) mashed up roughly with fork +
sour cream* enough to reach approximately the right thickness
Season with:
Mayo
Lemon juice (not much)
Pepper

This needs to sit for a bit and stirred occassionally, maybe half an hour (?) at room temp to allow cheese to disolve a bit and meld.

Does not keep very well, maybe a few days.

* the sour cream available to you may be overly thick for purpose. Mayo and lemon will dilute a bit, or you can add a bit of milk.

Thanks, mish - that should be enough to go on. I'll definitely be trying that as soon as I'm ok to eat soft cheeses again.

My turmeric dressing. Utterly gorgeous.

4tbs olive oil
2 garlic cloves (crushed)
Juice of 1 lemon – also all zest
Juice of 1 lime
1 tsp honey
2 tsp turmeric (might try 3 next time)
1/2 avocado
A pinch of salt

I hope you don't mean the vinegar/cucumber one - that one shoujldn't need a dressing. Or are you talking about a different one?

Yeah. I did mean that but I don't need to use the dressing in the recipe. I can sub out one of these dressings.

it's funny. I always think of a salad as having to have lettuce but it really doesn't. Any veggies will do. It can be cukes, carrots, black beans and corn.

I think we need to expand our salad ideas.

Audrey used green beans, red potatoes and asparagus for her signature salad.

Vinaigrette : Olive oil, rape seed oil, balsamic vinegar, small amount of malt vinegar, pepper, Dijon mustard. Shaken not stirred.
