Beef Continental... for me and a friend...

Post by islandboi » Sun Sep 23, 2018 2:25 pm

That's right... I kind of met someone.... He's as apprehensive as me (are we not all at this age?) but dinner is always non intimidating.

I hauled out one of my mom's old recipes for what was a traditional Christmas Eve supper in our home growing up for many years.... Beef Continental.

It's a great way to utilize left over roast beef and is fairly cheap to make... I had cooked a blade roast earlier in the week. Need to use the rest.

It was really good except I do not think mom added the white wine...

DU BOEUF CONTINENTAL... A la islandgarçon...

1 1/2 lbs of cooked, sliced beef
2 tsp canola oil
1/2 large cooking onion, minced
1 tin of Campbell's Cream of Mushroom soup
1/2 c dry white wine
1/2 tin of tomato paste (those small 156 ml tins)
1/2 c sour cream... full fat

Heat oil... add onions... cook and let carmalize using some of the wine to deglaze.... add tomato paste.... carmalize... using wine to deglace... add the boeff.... bring to a simmer.... add the rest of the vino.... salt and pepper to taste... turn off heat... add sour cream.... blend.

Serve over hot noodles.

That recipe looks a lot like beef stroganoff to me. I used to make something very similar anyway, with fresh mushrooms instead of soup, and no wine. I haven't had it in ages, I might have to make it sometime soon.
Things fall apart, it's scientific.

Creamy meat is not my thing, but that sounds sumptuous.

I couldn't fuck after eating 2,000 calories like that, so maybe think about including a side salad.

I grew up in the Midwest, and didn't like dairy. This recipe evokes Cream-of-Mushroom nightmares.

It’s kind of a hillbilly version of Beef stroganoff. If you can afford it get some fresh beef and a proper beef stroganoff recipe without the canned soup and make it properly if you want to impress him, it’s not hard. And happy for you you have met someone.
