No, it's the season to eat figs
I bought a whole box of figs yesterday. They're wonderful this time of year.
At the moment I'm just eating them with brie and prosciutto, either as they are, or baked, with walnuts and honey added to the mix.
What else could I do with them?

Squeeze them for their fabled syrup. Use it to help bald men.

Mmmmm figs! I should buy figs.
It's so similar, but goats cheese and bacon is nice for variety.

Yep, I've used goats cheese or feta in the past. Any nice, soft textured cheese works.

Now? My figs are mid summer. We don’t get a second harvest in September.
I guess yours are imported. Don’t you grow them in England?

The ones I bought were from Turkey. And figs are definitely an early Autumn thing here. It's a short season.

I bought some tiger figs at Trader Joe’s and roasted them with honey.

I think I might end up doing that with some of them. I bought more than I can eat fresh, or baked as a savoury dish. They're showing signs of shriveling already, so baking some with honey will mean they'll keep as a dessert option with ice cream

I am eating Greek figs and drinking slivovica as we speak, and the texture of these figs is wonderful. Meatier than California or East Coast figs.(Flavor is comparable.)

I really need to try that combination, Vinny.

Thanks again for the slivovica, rez. All gone now, alas.

I adore figs. For years I had them and dates mixed up. All those years missing out on heating them.

Re: No, it's the season to eat figs
I think the only "fig" I've ever had was in Fig Newton form - so probably little to no actual fig involved.
I've kind of put them out of my mind since my boss when I was a 14 year old working at radio shack was eating from a pack of fig newtons that we found was crawling with tiny worms. He ate about a 1/4 of the pack before this was noticed. This was over 30 years ago. They sent him a box of fig newtons when he called and bitched. Which he immediately scarfed down with gusto. I haven't been able to look at them since.
I'm guessing they bear little to no resemblance to the actual thing.

I did too, I had no idea why until I just looked up what a fig newton is. I might have had one of those when I was very young (I suspect it's bad) and also it looks like dates, so maybe I only saw one. Figs are lovely though.

Re: No, it's the season to eat figs
The problem with buying a big box of them, is that they have a very short shelf life. I ended up roasting half of them with honey and a little bit of butter. They were fantastic with Greek yogurt, and the buttery juices drizzled over. But the fig season is so short, I wish I'd had time to eat more of them fresh.
I have just bought another (smaller) box of them though.
