Moving to the country, gonna eat a lot of peaches

Post by section8 » Tue Jul 31, 2018 9:46 pm

One thing we can't get here is good stone fruit. It's almost always shit. Maybe 10% of what you buy will be worth eating.

In a moment of weakness I ordered 8 pounds of peaches from Harry & David. They have arrived and are perhaps 1-2 days away from perfect ripeness.

I'm not sure we will be able to eat 8 pounds of peaches in the short ripeness window.

What are some good ways to use peaches besides eating them straight?

I have never had this problem before.

Cut them up and put them in a mason jar with some decent quality moonshine.

I've been buying bags of peaches from TJ's and making milkshakes. You could probably be healthier and make smoothies.

Sliced and frozen works well. There is a trick to removing the skin that makes it easier. Freestone peaches are less hassle than cling. There's something about melting and non melting varieties but that might only apply to canning.

peach pie mmmmmm

but don't get too attached to plans. Last year we got a flat box (abt 10 kg) of ripe mangos picked the same day, and had absolutely no problem eating them all up *burp*

Peach cobbler, obvballs.

I wish I could order good stone fruit here. It all gets imported from Japan and is never good.

The trick to peeling the. is to cover with boiling water for a minute. Skin slips off.

You certainly can freeze them. You could make canned spiced peaches.

Like tomatoes. If you cut just a tiny x in the bottom first it will make it even easier as it gives a "starting point".
