Ever tried a curry dish with pasta rather than rice?

Post by brodie_bruce » Tue May 06, 2014 12:03 pm

A colleague who emigrated from that part of the world a few years back always brings curry in for lunch (can't blame her - the cafeteria here is pretty average and the other options in the area are expensive) - today she had macaroni with a jalfrezi (I think) as they'd run out of rice.

Apparently it went well with the curry - I'm almost tempted to try it myself. It just seems slightly wrong though.

I don't know why that strikes me as so wrong, but it does. I wouldn't put Bolognese sauce on rice either.

I think Brodie probably means an Indian style curry, rather than a Thai one, which could come on noodles. I think it would be weird to have Indian food with pasta.
Testicles have an interesting texture -- I think because of the epidydimis -- but they don't have a lot of flavor of their own. VinnyD

Sorry, meant Indian style curry with pasta back in the OP. It still seems really, really, really wrong though......

I think I'll hunt down a laksa at the weekend. It's been a while.

Goat curry with macaroni is a bit of a staple in West Africa, among some people anyway.

I like eating my curry without any starch about 50%-%75 of the time.

I'm never sure what people mean by bolognese sauce, but I have rice and beans and the kind of tomato sauce I put on pasta for lunch most days. And I have that sauce with beans mixed in over pasta sometimes, in that case with grated Parmesan also.

Almost all my curry is coconut milk based, over pasta it would be altogether too much.

Yes, I make my African*, UK "Indian/Pakistani" curries with pasta sometimes, though prefer it with pilau rice. I also like making my gumbo with pasta often rather than the usual rice.

Red beans and rice is good using pasta stars or small to medium shaped pastas (make and keep the pastas separate in all cases above, or it gets soggy gross).

EDIT: am not claiming to know what an African curry is, just what my friends from Eritrea, SA, etc have taught me with their recipes from their homeland:)
