I just cooked the most delicious dinner. Snow would be proud.

Orzo with asparagus, peas, ham hock, garlic onions cooked in chicken stock and white wine with plenty of parmesan cheese stirred through.
It was lovely, creamy comfort food.

I stupidly left it on the coffee table, went to talk to my friend and when i came back...Ted was licking his chops.

Cleared the lot!

Made potato and cauliflower curry.
Kept tasting and tasting as it was cooking and couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. Too little curry powder? Turmeric? Not enough pepper? Then I remembered I hadn't put any salt in at all. Fixed it.

No meat. Aubergine, courgette, peppers, tomatoes, onion and chilli.
The harder veg was pre-nuked in garlic, oil, coriander, lemon and vinegar, then everything sat in that juice for a couple of hours.

I've burnt some serious calories today so I'm indulging in a major nosebag. Beef Vindaloo, masala kulchar and a veg samosa. Washed down with a Wilding Shiraz of course.

Went for Thai last night and I think they made a mistake with the spice in mine. It was a Massaman curry and I asked for it to be a "4" on the 1-6 spice scale. (Normally I'd go 5 or 6, but was planning to share with Mr_S and he can't handle a lot of heat.) Well, it was tasty but also extremely hot. At the upper limit of what is still enjoyable for me and maybe slightly over it. Mr S had one bite and that was enough for him.

His dish, he ordered at a 3 on the scale, and it wasn't hot at all.

Are Massamans always blistering hot? Or did they mess up? I really do have a high tolerance for spice, generally.

No, there is nothing inherently hot about Thai Muslim curry; in fact, it's typically pretty mild comparatively. I think it's supposed to have more of a sour character rather than spicy. I haven't ordered it too often, tried it a few times and while it was OK, I wasn't really blown away.

There's a Thai place like that around here. I'm usually pretty good with a 5/5 on the heat scale, but friends who eat there who don't like it as spicy complain of some wide variances. They've got great food though.

The flavour was pretty good, though I would probably try the green curry next time, just because it's been a really long time since I had one. I guess I'd try ordering a 4 again and see if it compares to this last one.

I once passed out after eating an incredibly hot dish. Woke up in the night, gut churning, then broke out into a drenching sweat - it was literally dripping off me. Then I passed out. Woke up on the floor. At least this one wasn't quite that hot.

I had left over curry from 2 nights ago... it has been too freaking hot and humid here the last two days to turn the stove on.
My curry was just a mishmash of leftover Costco roast chicken, coconut milk, Mr. Patak's hot curry paste, onions, celery and chopped chili peppers and tomatoes from the garden. My cilantro has bolted already so I didnt have any.

It was the first time I've eaten there in probably 10 years. Maybe more.

Tonight I had some grilled chicken thighs with a dry chipotle rub, fried okra, and vegetable noodles.

I tried to make pasta with a spinach pesto, sans cheese, but the spinach pesto was fucking spicy. That spiciness that comes from raw spinach. I guess I should've blanched the spinach first. It was not very good at all.

Very pretty color though.

large coffee w cream

*studying in town*

Oh, the other day I found a (for me) new place. They made me a grilled slice of salmon, then put it in a bun, with salad, raw veggies. I got a salty-licorice-chocolate bar, and a bag of sea salt crisps, and a fresh squeezed orange juice. That was really yummy! Meant to take photos. Too hungry to wait to photo it
