for AU$250 instead of $750 for the real deal it seems like a no brainer.

the camera isn't as flash as the real sumsung, but I'm not planning on going anywhere in the immediate future anyhow, photos these days are so passe anyhow.

and the way I keep dropping phones and doing screens in I cannae afford to be paying a thousand a go to buy a new one.

it looks like it does pretty much everything a real samsung does, and I don't have to worry about dropping a $750 smart phone all the time seeing it's only $250 or so.

So anyone else used a knock off of a 'real' phone, or considering it?

know anything at all about the things?

I'd imagine a lot of asians, and non first worlders in general, use these things allready as their go to smart phone , yeah?

I have a £100 recon iPhone 5s. It's in a £30 Otterbox. It's fucking bombproof and has been going for at least 4 years without a hiccup.

Iif I ever get a real phone again I shall invest in one of those otterboxes next time..

for the last few years I've gone through a phase of carrying my phone caseless, to save on size in the pocket, it has not paid off..

that's why i'm thinking get a cheapie then it doesn't matter so much.

half the reason I go caseless is that the phone is in and out of a car dash phone holder all day in a vehicle , and caseless makes this easier

Why caseless? And why do you have trouble getting a phone that's inside a case into a phone cradle?

I use a OnePlus with this slimline case:

I never take that off. I never have a problem with the car cradle with that case. But I also don't have problems holding my phone in such a way that it doesn't regularly fall to the ground.

allwell, the blackviewS8 is a useless cunt of a thing, piece of shoddy chinese crap,I highly do not recommend it, so many bugs and glitches, the music stops 15 seconds after the lock screen comes on, I'll use it for now but defo without a cover, can't wait for it to smash to smitherines, then I'll get a samsung 7, maybe a J7pro (less than half the price of a galaxy S9)

For that price range, your best value smartphone is definitely a Moto G-whatever-number-they-are-up-to-now.

Husband recently bought a Xiaomi Mi something or other for maybe $400. Great specs, but he was quietly despising it because it didn’t work well with Android Auto (phone in car, navigation, music). He couldn’t listen to his music in the car without starting it before navigation, and other things weren’t working. Finally being the nerd he is, he replaced the operating system with something clean and not Xiaomi-ized, found off the internet, and everything works perfectly now.

What happens when the batteries die on one of those cheap Chink phones?

You get what you pay for. I would stay away. I can personally also recommend the Moto G whatever the number.

the thing wont die, and I'm willing it too..

but it does sort help to break my smartphone addiction, it being such a piece of shite.

OTOH it does what a basic phone should, receives about 76% of calls made to it, and gets most messages, within about 4 hours of them being sent.

yah and having a look at a Moto G 6, ^ is what they seem to be up to, they look OK and an OK price, might buy one next time if two of youse are recommending them as OK, thanks for that.

all I'm looking for is something equivalent to a top of the line phone in 2016 , maybe 17, with a headphone jack, the alternate samsung (J5 pro) was defo good enough for me, apart from it didn't like concrete, all the difference I could discern between it and a top shelf galaxy 8 or 9 was that it wasn't fully waterproof, that was about it.

having more of a look, they look better than the samsung J7 pro, for similar price.

well, finally bought a samsung galaxy 8, luvly phone at half the price of when it was new, and got an otterbox as well to go with it, I'd never heard of an otterbox before DC mentioned it, really good bit of plastic it is, so thanks..

I'd had a look at the moto G6 phones, thanks for the recommendations, there was a basic model G6 play for $225, then the better G6 plus on a dodgy website for $335, then when I found it really was a dodgy website in the shop they were $425,, then the samsung 10 came out in the meantime so the samsung s8 dropped to $500 and I bought it instead.

I got my kids and Mrs Boink Asus Zen phones. Mrs Boink because she drops them, loses them, spills coffee on them, etc. The kids because I was worried they'd lose it and I was too cheap to shell out $400 for a Samsung. The Zen phones $150 each. Not a complaint from anybody. We're not very sophisticated users here, but nonetheless, the Zen phone has enabled them to do everything they'd wanted to do. And no one has lost their phone yet, though we've had some serious attempts.
