A Decentralized Web

Post by Annotated » Sat Sep 29, 2018 5:35 pm

Tim Berners-Lee tells us his radical new plan to upend the World Wide Web

Backed by Glasswing Ventures, its mission is to turbocharge a broader movement afoot, among developers around the world, to decentralize the web and take back power from the forces that have profited from centralizing it. In other words, it’s game on for Facebook, Google, Amazon.

“We are not talking to Facebook and Google about whether or not to introduce a complete change where all their business models are completely upended overnight. We are not asking their permission.”

He's chosen a strangely under-the-radar way to tell us about his amazing innovation.

When Tim Berners-Lee does something like this, it won't be under the radar for long.

That doesn't mean it will actually end up changing the web, of course. But trust me, the people who are most meant to hear about it at this stage -- developers and technophiles -- will hear about it.

Berners-Lee invented the web in 1989. How many years did it take you get on it?

Article is kind of light on detail. How's it different from/better than tor and the dark web?

tor. darkweb. inrupt. what we are using now. Good to have options...

I think the main disturbing thing is how few humans know really ABOUT what this is we use; that is what will control the web: those with knowledge. Most will just use it.

I wish I´d been more interested in the bones of it, in the beginning way more
