IDE question

Post by gnd » Mon Jul 23, 2018 7:35 pm

iyho, would you use an IDE if coding?

specifically, I just finally had time to look at Python basics tutorials tonite (it looks like BASIC with a few minor differences to me), but the tutorial is using IDE/JyputerNotebook on Anaconda, using Python 3.something....

my question is: is that not "cheating" ie not coding on your own, yourself, but using software to do so?

Or is that how it is done nowadays? (serious question. When I wrote BASIC, or C++...for instance, I wrote it all myself, fuckups and all. Proud.) IMHO I might as well be a "Wordpress Architect" using a PHP wrapped with interdependent CMSs. Am I being too harsh, old-fashioned?

Context: I tried to get any coding book on Python Friday, but this is not IT town (am commuting now between two cities), I have to order it. So, now am trying to decide between two Python O´Reillys (The Hard Way, and a slightly different one, or both). Meanwhile am looking online for misc. The patterns seem pretty damn easy (ie like BASIC as opposed to C++) so am happy:)

CONTEXT: I have spent a huge amount of time in a vicious child custody battle not able to focus on my career, hence only now barely having time with Coding I´ve wanted to do again for ages now:) Yes to you Eig,)

thanks for answreing my Tedious Questions! *superfun am happy about that atleast*

At work everyone uses Visual Studio.

But go ahead and try to write software in Notepad if you want.

I have no idea why you wouldn’t use an IDE. Why make things harder for no good reason?

...will try the "new" way...but

really if I can´t write it myself, how would i know that this, for instance is pretty much the same thing...

sum((i * h for i, h in zip( x, y /1:/)) + /-1 * y /0/

as this

sum( i * h for i, h in zip (X, y /1:/ + y /:1/))

assume / is a square bracket; the spaces should be a dbl before the first sum. bla blah etc. (i did not write out full code front)

am ok with using libraries, or atleast looking at boilercode, but ok maybe I should be more open minded with the "software help"

IDEs aren't "new".

Do you think tradesmen shouldn't use tape measures?

I think it´s just cuz I´m female....and I´ve only ever met ONE woman in IT. Obv I have to be better in a Male Environment...like IT...

but yeah ya´ll are correct. It is easier, quicker.

Vs code is rapidly gaining fans. Give it a try. It's somewhere between a simple text editor and a full blown ide like visual studio, xcode, or intellij.

^TIL! I was absolutely not allowed to use those,) damn thatda been sweet!,)

thanks will take a look at JS, vs code

new city is way more IT and Tech than this one. I think it´s best I focus more generally in IT and Tech, not oil (Python bc science)

C++, or JS might be more difficult, but easier, overall, to get a job in in new city

Will waitress meanwhile.

I had planned on moving next year, not in a few weeks. Not v prepared to IT yet

Almost all frontend web dev these days involves JavaScript in some way, even if it's transpiled from something like typescript.

Either they're using flash or silverlight or whatever Java's shitty browser framework is, or they're not doing frontend web dev. Or marketing doesn't know much about software development.

Yeah, I can't imagine doing front end web stuff without JS in this day and age.

We use it for our backend microservices too though, which has been really interesting and a bit horrifying for me.

thank you. I was also trying to figure out HOW they supposedly did "not" use JS here. Maybe he thought I mean Java.

What do you mean that you "hadn't thought of micro services?" Hadn't thought of them for what?
Enjoy the breakfast talk.
