touch screens and babies

Post by equus » Fri Oct 20, 2017 4:02 pm

Thought I'd try the right branch initially.

We like to show little Helga youtubes of In the Night Garden, the Wiggles, and others from time to time. She's now at an age where she grabs the laptop and various bad stuff happens.

We have an HP Spectre with detachable touch screen. Any suggestions for making it resistant to baby grabbing (ie, so she can watch for more than a few seconds).

This is not so we can leave her at it for hours!

I believe Mad Hatter has the only correct answer.

Are you trying to physically protect the touch screen or stop her from interacting with it?

I'd recommend against YouTube. Our daughter discovered that you can tap on other videos that appear below your video and pretty quickly she was watching idiotic sugar videos, ads, and all kinds of other inappropriate subject material shouting for her attention. Even if we sat with her the whole time we just got into a battle trying to stop her from jumping to new videos that we didn't approve of and what was supposed to be fun ended in frustration and crying.
