Will Maobama even win Illinois this year?

Post by Lost Soul » Mon Aug 20, 2012 8:51 pm

He may not. It's pretty close.

The Cook County Communists better start voting even more dead people.

http://dailycaller.com/2012/08/20/shock-poll-obama-could-lose-illinois/

President Barack Obama could lose his home state of Illinois in November, a new poll shows.

A poll conducted by Illinois-based pollster and political strategist Michael McKeon found Obama leading Republican Mitt Romney by 49 percent to 37 percent in Cook County, the home of Chicago. That puts him ahead by a far thinner margin than expected in a county he should be winning handsomely.

Cook is the most Democratic leaning county in the state. It is also the most populous.

Those numbers do not bode well for the president.

“He has to come out of Cook County with a big lead or he’s gonna have problems downstate,” explained McKeon, who said that based on the numbers he had seen, Obama polled only in the forties in downstate Illinois.

“It’s not like his policies are very popular downstate,” McKeon said. “He’s viewed as more part of Chicago than he is part of Illinois.”

According to the poll, which surveyed 629 registered voters last week, Obama’s problems are not in Chicago proper, but in suburban Cook County.

In the city of Chicago itself, he retains a 60-29 lead over Romney. But the Republican challenger leads 45-38 in the surrounding areas. Across the county as a whole, Romney leads 43-31 among independent voters, a crucial voting bloc. Romney also holds a 44-38 lead among male voters, and a 53-40 lead among white voters.

Illinois is not considered a swing state by any means; it is seen as solidly blue, and has been for the past two election cycles. But McKeon pointed to the 2010 gubernatorial race when Republican Bill Brady came within a single percentage point of now-Gov. Pat Quinn because Brady won most of the downstate counties. That is a feat Romney could repeat this year, leaving Obama vulnerable if he cannot expand his lead in Cook County.

Most normal people would find it odd that the poll is by someone nobody has ever heard of and even more odd that the article doesn't give you the overall polling numbers in Illinois.

Lost Soul -- Weren't you the one who said Obama wouldn't even run for reelection?

You're too old to act the way you do.

Most normal people have heard of him; he was Lenny on Laverne and Shirley and in This Is Spinal Tap.

and even more odd that the article doesn't give you the overall polling numbers in Illinois.

I think it was a poll of Cook County, from which an Illinois pollster can extrapolate how badly the Pubes will lose a given statewide election.

Maobama has a better chance winning his home state than Romney winning his (Michigan? Massachussets?), unless you count Utah as Romney's true home state

Or Hawaii for that matter.

Anyway, the mere hint of the Illinois loss shows how close to blowout status this election really is, phony leftist polls notwithstanding.

Dude, hate to break it to you but this post is just wishful thinking on your part. Sort of like in 2008 when you were the captain of the SS McCain/Palin who went down with his ship denying right up the the last it had hit an iceberg and sank. There'd have to be a Reagan/Carter blowout for Obama to lose Illinois. not only is there zero evidence other than this poll but Romney aint no Reagan.

There is some evidence. The three corrupt, media-driven polls published recently complete with their skewed samples, and deconstructed by moi in this branch, come to mind.

Then there was the too-close-to-call Scott Walker election. Remind me how that turned out.

And then there is 2010. Everybody is forgetting 2010, and the historic evisceration of Dumbocrats there.

Finally, the Dumbos aren't turning out for these clowns. Just subtract seven.

Did we just start a comedy thread here?

The "hint" of an illinois loss is much like the "hint" he was born abroad - absolute and utter bullshit.

The only "hint" of an Illinois loss for Obama was the brownish stain on his fingers after the pollster pulled out this poll result from his own ass....

Tell me, did any of those leftist polls from fox news showing Romney within 20 points in Illinois?

Wow,just read on Twitter that Obama is ahead in Fla by 2
I wonder if the presidents handling of Sandy and Rmoney's comment about FEMA are nudging the polls?
They see alot of hurricane action

And according to Nate Silver O is leading in 19 state battleground polls while Rmoney is leading in one

Oh,and Mourdock is behind by 11
Ouch

That's the risk when you put crazy teabaggers like Atkin or Mourdock up as your candidates, they say so many crazy things that even the voters will notice one or two of them.

You'd think the GOP learned that after the witch candidate 2 years ago....

Gotcha

here is a link you might be interested in LS
I got the link from a Nate Silver tweet
The guy gives a reasoned logical explanation of why he thinks the polls are biased* and Nate Silver is overestimating the probability of an Obama win
Nevertheless he still gives Obama a 60/40 chance

Looking at the math(I know facts  ) Obama gets pretty close in electoral votes just winning the big states he and other dems reliably win
Taking the rest of the swing states into consideration he only has to win 30% of them
Using the same math,Rmoney has to win them all
Statistically it is possible but less probable

*Bias as a statistic term, not a political one
