Those pics make me feel a bit uncomfortable.

I'm a Second AC class type of a woman, although it took me quite a while to get used to having super spicy veggie burgers for breakfast. It's free food, though, so mustn't grumble.

I was First AC class all the way. Because I'm worth it.
*tosses hair*

Now I want to go on an Indian sleeper again.

A lot of those pics look like they're from unreserved class coaches.

I follow this person on Instagram - some great stuff on the page.
Paleyphoto is another Instagram account that gets me daydreaming about India, China, Pakistan and Central Asia. This bloke has just started accompanying Paul Salopek on his out-of-Eden global walk actually: they're in the Wakhan Corridor right now.
Fully recommend joining Instagram if you like daydreaming...

I never traveled in anything less than 1st class AC on Indian trains. It was a good experience traveling that way.

Ha! Me too! I took a photo of it, obv.

Lincs, you really do need to take the Tazara train in Tanzania/Zambia. It's the ultimate WTF? train journey, I reckon.

Amateurs...buy a second class and bribe ticket collectors...you spend way less that way.
Used to work in China also (where as soon as they saw whitey they'd be approaching you not 10 minutes after the train left the station).

Only went AC once, 2nd reserved whenever possible, or unreserved if not. I love sitting in the open doorway, and that's not allowed in AC. The old style 1st class was excellent, but for the last 20 or so years only on regional or branch lines, very hard to find now. I remember that train with the milk urns hung by hooks outside the window somewhere in Rajasthan. 14 visits and more than 4 years total travelling in India, at least 3 months total in 2nd class, but more likely double that as I usually took a train a week. I love the whole community of train travel in India, the sharing of food, space, personal information. But the best is sitting on a step looking at the scenery going by, and smoking a joint.
