Research tells me there are some interesting villages within a day's drive of Bhuj. There's also a traditional ship building town on the coast called Mandvi. I've had a bit to do with building steel hulled fishing vessels back in the day but wooden boat construction interests me more. It's an art form. I like the way they seem to have dug a big hole with an excavator here and, voila, instant dry dock.

I found transport difficult to even get into the area, but that was more than a decade ago, but I doubt it’s changed much. I was heading for Porbinder. The good thing was no other tourists.
