Pushkar/ Ajmer

We're planning on three/ four days in the Pushkar /Ajmer area in January before flying to Gujarat. Those of you who have been to one or both, which of the two would you recommend considering they're only 3/4 hr apart? And that the airport is in Ajmer.

Pushkar is less than an hour by bus from Ajmer. A sacred lake, getting more touristed every year. The Brahma temple is said to be the only one in India dedicated to this God. It's a pleasant walk around the lake, and often in the evening a tabla player can be heard. Due to it being a sacred place alcohol isn't easy to find, but with a nod and a wink a beer will appear. One of my favourite places in India, don't miss it.

Thanks. It's just a matter of either staying in Ajmer and getting out to Pushkar or vice versa. Both read well re. temples and attractions but obviously the lakeside setting of Pushkar is a bonus.

Pushkar/ Ajmer is our last stop before flying to Gujarat and we're flexible with flight times. What's your opinion on length of stay for the area. I know, it's a piece of string thing but generally a good poke about the major highlights? 3/4 days?
