Vancouver

Post by DaBaba » Tue May 08, 2018 2:06 pm

It turns out that I am going to have the day free tomorrow in Vancouver. What should I do with my day? I see the mountains so close by, but aside from boots I didn't bring any gear, so can't go up in the snow. The city seems pretty nice and walkable, although yesterday after the trade show let out I proceeded with unerring instinct to the seedier side of town and found myself among drug addicts, homeless and loonies. Still, I'm struck by the city.

Give me some advice on places to go, things to see, places to eat until I head to the airport.

I really wish that I had more time to explore outside the city. The mountains are calling and I can't go.

Stanley park would seem the best option in town if you want to do a bit of walking around that doesn't require hiking gear

You don't have to go far to walk around mountain-like areas.

Rent a bicycle and do the entire seawall-Stanley Park and the onto False Creek all the way to Granville Island for lunch-you can ferry part way back.

DaBaba, you should have let us know you were in town. If you were here on a weekend I would bought you a coffee or something, knowing that you don't drink.

As far as something to do Bill has you covered.

Rent a car and do a loop around the mountains to Squamish, Whistler, Pemberton, Lillooet, Hope and Vancouver.

The Fraser River canyon is probably at peak flow.

Thanks all. I took a long walk from the convention center through Gastown, Chinatown, the east side and who knows where then found myself around False Creek, then Yaletown and finally at my hotel, which I booked at the last minute, on Davie near a bunch of crappy restuarants and gay bars.

I was asked to come here Thursday and booked the flight and hotel late Friday afternoon when I found put no one had made any arrangements. I'd have planned if I knew I was coming.

I'll check out the suggestions for tomorrow. I've seen signs for buses to Grouse Mtn. There's no way I'm renting a bicycle. I hope it doesn't rain, it's been beautiful here and I am unused to rain, I might melt. Now I just need to find a decent place to eat. I haven't accidentily stumbled on anyplace worthwhile by accident here.

I don't think I have time for that, my flight is late tomorrow afternoon. Plus it might be hard put it on the expense account. At least before I make any sales off of this show.

Will do. Next time I'd like to know beforehand too.

I am very impressed by what I've seen. It seems like a fantastic city. But what do I know? I've just seen downtown and the convention center, plus where I've walked and the drive in from the airport.

I'll definitely look for an excuse to come back. Maybe I can visit some customers, if any of my prospects pan out.

Too late now. I googled places to eat and found a list of " the 31 places to eat in Vancouver" and went to the one closest to my hotel. I worked the booth and walked the exhibition hall all day with no chance to eat, so my plebian standards were lowered further. All good.

I've been at the Convention Centre all week (including Sunday) as well. Although I think we might be here for different conferences/tradeshows. I'm sure bundes and I would have enjoyed your company very much. Anyway, if you are ever back in Vancouver let us know sooner. I don't live here but am here fairly often and there are a few Stewbies that do live here and are quite social.
