Seattle in March

Post by Chip_Oatley » Wed Feb 14, 2018 7:42 pm

I'll be living in Seattle for the month of March, north of Ballard? Funny neighborhood name.

I will be responsible for a dog, so can't do overnights. Can probably take dog on some hikes. Will I just get rained on the whole time?

It rains all the time, but doesn't amount to much. Just buy some rain gear and go for it. And a wide-brimmed rain hat so it doesn't drip down your neck into your clothes. Hiking under trees in the rain can be dry.

This year all the tracks have gone north, so it is rainier than normal. There were actual floods when I was there a couple of weeks ago.

The rain also varies hugely by location. The leeward side of the Olympics (south Seattle/Tacoma) is drier and the leeward side of the Cascades is a desert all the way to Idaho. That's just over Snowqualmie Pass on I-90.

Here is the rainfall for the last 30 days.

Pissup in Seattle? I may even be able to make that work. Are you coming to Oregon at all?

Sure.

I'd like to--just don't have plans to yet. Will send you message.

OK. You know how to reach me. I haven't left Bend in almost 7 months. That's insane.

Crown Hill?

I work in Ballard, so if you want to meet up for lunch, a drink, VR tour, just say the word.

As for weather, it might rain the whole time and it might be 65 and sunny. More likely bad than good though.

You will remain slightly damp the entire month. And not in a good way. If the sky is blue for more than a few hours people will start rumbling about a drought. Other than that Seattle is great. Really.

Except for the roads, and the drivers, of course.

Also, never ever eat at the first restaurant to the west of Pike's Place.
