WestJet will launch daily service between Vancouver and Mexico City

Post by Bill Barilko » Tue Jan 30, 2018 5:06 pm

WestJet will launch a three-time weekly service between Vancouver and Mexico City on March 15 with the route moving to daily service on April 29.

WestJet expands service from Vancouver with 60 more flights

Westjet is increasing service out of Vancouver International Airport by adding 60 more flights weekly.

The Vancouver to Calgary service is getting the biggest boost with the addition of 24 new flights per week, 88 to 112, for a total of 16 flights daily.

Westjet is also increasing service to Edmonton (50 to 59 flights weekly), Kelowna (40 to 49), Ottawa (seven to 14), Regina (six to seven), Fort. St. John (six to 12), Victoria (33 to 35), Cancun (two to three) and Cabo San Lucas (one to two).

“WestJet is again providing additional service to benefit both the business traveller as well as the leisure guest,” WestJet vice-president Brian Znotins said in a release. “Since 2013, we have invested in providing 40 per cent more capacity for our guests in the community. With today’s increases, we will have more than 80 daily departures, and that means increased connectivity as well as convenience. We are certain business travellers and vacationers alike will be pleased with the flexibility and timeliness our enhanced schedule provides.”

Hm, good news - direct flights from VAncouver are a good thing for me, provided I can also get a direct flight to Vancouver.

I'm pretty sure both WestJet and AeroMexico both already fly daily, or close to it, out of Calgary.

So now there is a lot of competition from Vancouver. Air Canada, AeroMexico, Interjet and WestJet. I guess that explains the cheap prices that have been popping up. The problem with some of them are the times of their flights. It's great if you are staying in Mexico City but if you aren't, the flight times require you to overnight there when you arrive and/or when you leave if you have a connecting flight.

Aeromexico has daily flight between TO and Mexico city as well.

Discovered when I was pricing flights to Buenos Aires for next fall. Aeromexico offering cheap business class return to BUE for $1600 out of Toronto. Damn good deal.

I've flown AeroMexico Business Class a couple of times now. It's ok. It's not great. But it's certainly better than BC on United, for example.

Also, depending on how busy the route it (the last time I flew BC from Van to Mexico City it was half empty) they will first try to get you to bid on a BC seat, if you have booked a regular seat, and then they will offer to sell you one for about $200US as it gets closer to your departure date. These are all through emails. So that makes BC even more affordable.

And their points program is not too bad either.
