I would probably focus my six months on the US. There's a million places to see and you can follow the weather. I'd plan to do some of the side trips to foreign lands post-road trip.

Yeah.

Now I am considering renting a studio in Seattle so I can establish residency in WA*, and come and go as I please if/when I get tired of being on the road.

If you can think of a better base in Washington state, let me know.

I don't want to set up an apartment and come back to find all my stuff gone; that's why I look at the nice high rises.

Seattle is uninhabitable.

But since you won't be living there it might work out for you.

It's batshit and ugly.

Anyplace west of Puget Sound is OK, or even Whidbey Island.

Anyplace east of Lake Washington is OK too.

Just don't plan on getting a job outside your neighborhood.

And there are other states with no state income tax. Seattle has a Communist on the city council.

Sorry if I'm missing something, but why would there be income tax if you're on a road trip? Unless you're going to be working from the road and not on vacation?

You won't be looking for a job, right? Vancouver, WA will be cheaper than Seattle and it's right across the river from Portland. So no state income tax, and tax-free shopping right across the river.

Outside of the box thinking: Spokane. It's isolated and kind of stuck in 1994, but 15 miles from lovely Coeur d'Alene, Idaho and definitely cheaper than Seattle. It's a good base to travel to the inter-mountain West. And with a "metro area" of around 600,000, it's not that small.

Really outside-the-box: Walla Walla/Tri-Cities. Small but Walla Walla is a good community with great wine and a cute, re-vitalized downtown. I liked it. I could live there.
Learning is delightful and delicious. As, by the way, am I.

I don't know what it is about the Spokane/Coeur d'Alene area but there's something that turns me off.

I'm with rider. Spokane has been a freak show for 30 years. Just north of there in the Milan/Newport area is pretty sweet, however.

Walla Walla is a hot farming town. But the Blue Mountains are right there, and even have a ski area.

Vancouver is the best of the three, even though it is suburban hell. Lots of apts. to rent there too.

you gonna pay high rent in seattle just to avoid income tax? isnt it minimum $1500/month there?

how about asking a friend to use their address? or renting the cheapest room for $300? or a PO box that looks like an address?

Seattle is not the place to dodge taxes. It's full of leftards. Nevada, Wyoming, NH and Alaska are better.

To have a base, but yeah--I thought of those options. I do think I'll need a utility bill or something to get a license etc.

This may be an option and you can store your furniture where you live now.

The best states for full-time RVer domiciles generally come down to Texas, Florida or South Dakota. All three states are income tax-free, the government entities will accept mail-forwarding addresses and they are headquarters for mail-forwarding services.

And I spent a week in the Outer Banks of NC, and stopped in Jamestown and Wmsburg.

Ya, I would like to take off now but need to stick around the area and apartment until end of October for medical appointments and the like.

I am having little luck selling my stuff this time. It seems no one legit looks on craigslist anymore. Had a FB Marketplace no-show today. So I may just hire a mover to put what I expect to keep in my storage unit, and give away the rest. I moved in April when I sold my place. I thought this would be easy...

Hi. I’m currently in Philadelphia having breakfast at a sweet historic hotel. Weather is shit. 40F and rain. In town for a wedding.

I moved out of apartment last Wednesday and flew to Santa Fe, New Mexico, for a few days of spa treatments, shopping.’food, and touring.

Morro Bay was very nice. Rented kayak and visited with the otters, sea lions, and pelicans (brown, white). It's tough to "stay 50 feet away" when they're popping up around you.

Dumped rental car and hopped on train from San Luis Obispo to Oakland (transfer to bus to SF). PSA: don't trust Amtrak to transfer your checked bags. I had to keep asking them "look again"--oh, sorry, they were in the wrong pile. A minute before train left for Seattle. Good grief.

In SF now.

I'm taking the train cross-country next week. I need to go back and try to sell my car. I was too busy hauling my shit around to give that effort justice before. I also have a very full storage unit and would like to lighten that. Then, we'll see.

No you don't; I drive the car to the West Coast. The last one I did I flew into NYC, took a shuttle from airport to New Haven, CT, drove car to Wilkes Barre, PA, all the first day. Rolled into Denver a few days later, met the owner of the car at the airport, threw a bunch of pot in the car, golf and Vegas (what happens in Vegas, blah, blah, blah) on the drive to the SF Bay Area.

Said car was stored for a few months so had to replace the battery before getting on the road; oil change in Pittsburgh. Was outlining my trip on the plane to a business guy on the plane to NYC. He was like, you're going to do what??? I was like, dude, dontcha just gotta drive cross country every few years? No? Well, been doing it most of my life either with thumb or other means.

I may be able to fit you in.
