Tiger's Turnaround

Post by Lost Soul » Sun Sep 23, 2018 6:56 pm

A year ago he was ranked 1200 in the world. Currently he is 21st. And if he wins today, he will be 13th.

BTW, he is in great shape to win the tour championship today, with a 4-shot lead over Justin Rose.

It's a pretty amazing turnaround. The crowd is going nuts.

I think most sports fans around the world will be happy for Tiger if he gets back to his former status.

It was an amazing scene there at the end, with 10,000 people following him down the 18th.

Although not a big fan of Tiger, and once saying he'd never win another PGA tournament, I hereby eat crow and take my hat off to Tiger Woods. It brought tears to his eyes. I'm happy for him.

I share your crow, as does everybody else in here, and everywhere else on earth, including Tiger, after the drug-addled driving video from 16 months ago.

It's simply amazing. The doctor who did the back surgery should be named by Tiger, out of gratitude.

In other news, he hasn't won a major in over 10 years.

And he's not that good at The Ryder Cup.

Watching Tiger play so well in The Tour Championship was amazing. His driving, shots to the green, and putting were all even better than I remember when he was # 1 in the world.
Just as impressive was that he did so well on such a difficult course that required accurate driving because of the narrow fairways and thick rough, as well as the fast undulating greens. East Lake is a very challenging golf course.
Did you also notice this "Game Face" -- no smiles and as serious during the round as I've ever seen him. He really wanted it badly --- probably more than any prior Major because he knew that he had to win to feel like he "was back."
When Tiger does well it is good for Golf, and I am happy about that!

I doubted he would ever win another tournament after all his back set backs and drug addiction. That said, as a person, he still hasn't really redeemed himself.

I just read an article which indicated that Tiger Woods won U.S. $ 1,620,000 for winning The Tour Championship, and that this first place money was the SECOND HIGHEST PAYCHECK that he has ever received for winning a tournament (The highest was $ 1,700,000 for winning the 2013 Player's Championship).

He's got 80 tour victories now, two behind Sam Snead's record.

Anyway, congrats to Tiger. Dude was throwing darts at the greens and got a lucky break on 16 when it stayed out of the water hazard.

It helps to make putts. I look forward to the Ryder Cup.

You'll have to wake up very early to watch the Ryder Cup LIVE in the U.S.A. (especially on the West Coast), but there is apparently video replay later each day although I hate watching something when you already know what happened.
Me --- I will watch the LIVE coverage very early each morning on the West Coast.

When you say 'live', is it free to air Steve?

We have a law down here that says that all major sporting events [Melbourne Cup, Davis Cup, Ashes Cricket, Football Finals and the like] can not be charged for, and if shown must be on free to air, and i wonder is it the same in the US?

It's not the same here.

But this is on TV for free. But the first two days will be on cable.

As I understand it, only Friday's foursomes and four ball is exclusively on Cable LIVE -- On The Golf Channel. Tjere may be later videotaped coverage on FOX on Friday. There may also be LIVE coverage on-line on RyderCup.com.
Saturday and Sunday have LIVE coverage on FOX TV in the U.S.A.

I never liked him. Still don't. But his comeback is remarkable and not altogether expected.

WHere's Ereich here? Conspicuously missing.

Nah, the question is "will he win another major." He's certainly demonstrated that he "can." His recovery and comeback border on the miraculous. I guess there's still an angel or two on his bag.

As for the Ryder Cup? He's certainly not the only player to disappoint the US fans.

Tiger Woods was 0-4 in the Ryder Cup. He should be hanging his head in shame.

I don't see why Phil gets let off lightly.

It's his and Woods combined Ryder performance over the last 10 years which hasn't helped Team USA.

Then you get individuals like Poulter, Garcia etc who are at the very best of records: over perform.

The US will have Spieth, Reed (not his best this year) etc for many years to come.
