From last to first in classic Winx style.

Hey Duckie, I recently saw the movie Secretariat with Diane Lane and John Malkovich. It's the true fictionalized story of that horse. The owner lost it in a coin flip, almost lost her stables, and turned down $7,000,000 in the belief he would win the Triple Crown. Anyway, it was a good watch.

Secretariat was not boring.

The whole country was watching for three Saturdays in 1973.

Ducky, not re-inventing history here but Winx has already won 3 Cox Plates, and is line for #4.

Why do people get on a thread just to say some thing bad about it, does it not reflect on their negative mind set?

Oops. Thank you for correcting me. My memory appears to have gone a little queer.

Australians are trying to brand WINX their best horse ever, they still resent Phar Lap being a New Zealander, born in Temuka.

We don't 'resent' Phar Lap being born in NZ at all, matter of a fact some of our best race horses have been born over there, and we are happy to explain that fact.

I don't know were you get the idea that Aussies 'resent' the fact that 'The Red Terror' was NZ born, in my long life i have never heard any Aussie say that.

And as ducky says Winx is a different class to Phar Lap, with most of Winxs best wins were up to 10 furlongs, and Phar Laps were beyond 10 furlongs, one can be classed as a middle distance horse, and the other a true stayer.

And for me i would say that the best sprinter we have produced would be be Black Caviar, middle distance would be Winx, and stayer it would have to be Phar Lap.................................... and the best ever horse?

Fucked if i know.

Black Caviar has the added prestige of having won at Royal Ascot - despite being given a shocking ride from her jockey - and there is no chance that Winx would be risked overseas. But, of course, travelling horses internationally these days is nothing like it was in Phar Lap's day.

It is impossible to compare horses from different generations, even if one uses the clock to attempt to do so, just as it is with sportsmen. Rod Laver was the greatest tennis player I ever saw, but how can you compare him to Roger Federer?

One great NZ horse I did see who came to Europe was Balmerino - and he damn near won Europe's most prestigious race, the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

We saw Balmerino here too, he was some horse!!

And his exploits sure also adds to the reputation of NZ has for breeding fine stayers.
