England Opening Batting Crisis etc

Post by Stephen_Dedalus » Wed Sep 05, 2018 12:02 pm

Should Cook be allowed to determine when he retires?
(Meaning should he be picked for the 5th test?)

Shouldn't this 'dead rubber' be used to start bedding in a new team?

Why hasn't Rory Burns been selected to date? (Over 1,000 runs the past few seasons).

Is players trying to adapt to all forms of modern cricket (T20) ruining ability for young players to focus on opening the bat in test cricket, especially in British conditions?
Example: Hamed fucking up his playing style.

Should Moeen come in at 3 to protect Root, when Mo averages 47 at No7?

So many questions...

If cook weren’t retiring or if the series were on the balance I imagine w Jennings would have been dropped and burns would be making his debut on his home ground, opeining with cook. As it is jennings might well be opening with burns over the winter. Maybe it will go better for him.

It wouldn’t surprise me if cook got a century this game. He’s a good record in final tests I think?

I can’t see why riot is trying to hide down the order - england gave loads of middle order batsmen. I’d think he or stokes are best equipped to come in at 3 so they’ll pick Mo. At least Mo is willing.

What about Vince or Bell for the winter? Or opening with butler? And how shite has bairstow been - what 6 runs in 3 innings? He’s really making a play for that no7 spot

Interesting points...first thing to say is that there is no such thing as a dead rubber in Cricket...believe me the Indians will be up for this as will England.

Cook should have his swan song...hes been great for us and deserves 1 last game to say goodbye...agree I think he'll get a bit score.

Going forward is less than clear...who the fcuk do we get to replace both Cook and Jennings?

Vince at 3 for me...not an opener.

Bell deserves a recall but not for the winter tour ...he doesn't travel well.

Time for new blood...even if we dip for a year or 2...get them in young and give 'em a long run.

Stats don't lie. Bairstow bats far better when he is also keeping, Buttler doesn't.

Cook has a good chance of passing Sangakkara to go 5th all time.

Without Googlings, can you name the other four? (two should be easy).

Yes I can as you well know.

Bairstow happens to have had the gloves since he remodelled his technique so he stands more upright. He’s had 3 ducks in the last 4 in innings so hes making the case for batting at 7, with or without the gloves.

Really the england batting line up is a bunch of one-day sloggers.
