Interesting gamble by Nike. Be interesting to see how this plays out. And of course this is political. When a YCer points out that you're posting in the wrong fucking forum, you really need to take a step back.

Whatever brand shoes those are, we don't see them being burned; we see the shoes and a fire stick. The only shoes we see burning are those in the photo to the right, and those shoes are white, with no identifying logo.

Nike stock closed @ 82.18 on Friday Aug 31st. It opened @ 79.01 on Sept 4th, and closed @ 79.60.

I'm gonna try to remember to keep a daily check on their stock to see if it continues to drop or if it starts to rise.

Gotta admire Kaepernick for first transforming himself from a white man to a black man, and then managing to squeeze a Nike advertising contract out of a failed football career based on redefining himself as some kind of icon of the black lives matter movement. It's a hell of a country--what's he bitching about?

Maybe so, LS, but doubt he'd still be on one of their advertising campaigns now based on his on his football career alone.

If the share price drop is due to these adds, which it may well be, its just speculation/panic from shareholders. There surely can't be any data to show how this will effect sales yet.

I'm sure the adds will result in some people ditching Nike. Others will switch to them but I suspect most people wont pay much attention to this this either way. If their sales stay firm or increase the shares will bounce back.

I doubt Nike will lose any sales outside of USA. Might be slightly the other way and they are getting millions of dollars of free worldwide advertising from this. What percentage of their sales are outside of Merika?

Still, it's not like Nike haven't been there before with the Nike hijab

Tucker interviewed a Nike watcher last night by the name of Whitworth. I can't find the clip, but he said Nike has been getting a lot of crap from the black community recently over their slave labor ethos. Anyway, they have fired a bunch of execs, and he thinks this Kapernick caper is a blatant ploy to silence the opposition to their slave labor practices. He also thinks it will backfire.

Nike's stock is up 20% this year. I have a feeling they'll be okay.

Athletic apparel is kind of goofy. I don't buy anything with a logo. Paying money to advertise for a company never made any sense to me.
