NFL Talk 2018

Post by Annotated » Wed Aug 29, 2018 8:19 pm

OK, ladies, it's almost that time.

The latest big news ...
Green Bay and Aaron Rodgers are finalizing a four-year, $134 million extension, according to the NFL Network. That includes getting more than $80 million before March. The bulk of that is a $57.5 million signing bonus.

https://nypost.com/2018/08/29/the-packe ... -6-months/
Looks like the Jets just traded Teddy Bridgewater to New Orleans, making rookie Sam Darnold the likely started.

Sweet, the Lions might have a shot against a rookie on Monday night at home in the opener. It would be nice for the fans to get in their usual ridiculous frenzy before settling in for the utter disappointment that inevitably follows.

Yes, from what I've read Sam Darnold will be the Jets opening day starter.

Moe, I'm picking Detroit in week 1 survivor pool. And to further on from the op, picking Chicago for my suicide pool, they are playing Green Bay.

The Roiders are the real mystery meat this year.

The Jets will suck, as per usual.

And Denver with another shitty QB is going nowhere fast. Nice job, John Boy.

I'm super excited to have John Gruden back in the captain's chair for the Raiders. We'll probably still suck, but maybe a little less than last year.

He's doing fantastic things with Khalil Mack. Dude should have just stayed in the broadcast booth. This is going to be another expensive and stupid move by the Raiders, but like Lions fans, you kinda have to be used to it by now. If they're going to move to Las Vegas, I guess they had to do something to put asses in the seats. A decade out of coaching and sixteen years since he did anything of note? I'm sure this is going to play out well. I guess for the money, he had to do it, but it's going to be a colossal shit show.

Yep, totally used to it. The thing is, this team has sucked for so long, I think the fans grasp at any possible glimmer of hope. Gruden did some good things for the team in the late 90s, maybe it will happen again.

Believe me, I can relate. We've won one playoff game in my lifetime (back in '91). Before that, our last playoff win was in 1957. That's right - we have one playoff victory in the last 61 fucking years. Suck on that NFL - think the salary cap pretty much guarantees parity? Oh my, you forgot about our dedication to sucking. We're on pace to win another playoff game in 2025! Go Lions! Still, Lionsfan will line up to sell out the stadium year after year, insisting that this is the year it's all going to come together. We're in year 62 of the rebuilding plan.

But kinda like the Lions drafting a wide receiver with their first round pick near the top of the draft three years in a row this is a move designed to look flashy, but is isn't likely to work. Sometimes, the flashy move isn't the right move. In fact, usually, the flashy move isn't the right move. It does sell tickets though. That's all the Raiders care about.

Possibly the most compelling rookie story outside of the top 5 to 10 picks.....

Jordan Mailata. An Australian rugby player that had never played grid-iron at any level before this spring.

The Eagles took a flyer on him in the seventh round and have been kicking the tires on the idea of molding him into a Left Tackle.

At 6'8 and a (believe it or not) lean 346 pounds, it seemed like a worthwhile gamble.

Apparently he's learning so quickly that he has become a lock to make the cut to 53 players on a very talented team.

^ i just gooogled that dude...
He looks about as 21 years old as pujols did!

Anyway, koools story. Seems like a goood dude.
For as hard as it is to learn NFL, there has to be a bit of an advantage to learning so late.
He isnt going to be taught something wrong, or get in bad habits. He is being taught by the best, in a pro setting, to do It exactly how they want him to do It.
Quite rare in the NFL coaching world to get a fresh canvas.

Id cheeer for him if was on any. other. team.

Yeah, he’s got two active all pro tackles mentoring him and one of the best Oline coaches in the NFL. His scrimmages and 11 on 11 drills have him going against some of the best Dline talent in the game.

The blank canvas thing is an advantage, but never having played the game had to have been a huge wall to jump over.

I’m going to ignore the raycetits ending to your post. mostly.

Here are the Supreme Bowl preseason odds. All I can say is that the Patsies are too high, the Bills are too low, and the Eagles are probably a buy at these odds.

Oh, and forget about any team that's 40/1 or worse, if you're punting from home.

Finally, the Jets, Bucs, Cards, Bears, Bungles and Fins have risen to their level of incompetency. Bring on relegation already.

New England Patriots 7/1
Los Angeles Rams 10/1
Minnesota Vikings 10/1
Philadelphia Eagles 10/1
Pittsburgh Steelers 10/1
Green Bay Packers 14/1
Jacksonville Jaguars 16/1
New Orleans Saints 16/1
Atlanta Falcons 20/1
Houston Texans 20/1
Los Angeles Chargers 20/1
Dallas Cowboys 25/1
Kansas City Chiefs 25/1
San Francisco 49ers 25/1
Carolina Panthers 33/1
Denver Broncos 33/1
New York Giants 33/1
Oakland Raiders 33/1
Baltimore Ravens 40/1
Seattle Seahawks 40/1
Tennessee Titans 40/1
Detroit Lions 50/1
Cleveland Browns 66/1
Indianapolis Colts 66/1
Washington Redskins 66/1
New York Jets 75/1
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 80/1
Arizona Cardinals 100/1
Chicago Bears 100/1
Cincinnati Bengals 100/1
Miami Dolphins 100/1
Buffalo Bills 150/1

The Philthy phans are booing their world champion team, and their golden boy QB at the end of the half, for being down 6-3.

No wonder Sir Charles was ecstatic about being traded to the Phoenix Suns. Worst fans anywhere.

They may have been booing the coach for running time off the clock instead of taking shots down the field. Pederson just authored a book called Fearless in which he vigorously criticizes the Jaguars HC for this precise behavior.

Dolphins won (of course) the longest the game in NFL history today.

Because of weather delays (lightning in the area), it went about 7 1/2 hours.

On top of that, Fox heidied us near the end (i.e. switching to a TV show before the game was over). They did manage to switch it back after a few minutes, however.

We got some bonus coverage of the Steelers vs. Browns, but they cut away "for contractual reasons" when that game went to OT. Figures, the first time something interesting related to the NFL has happened in Cleveland since the team left for Baltimore, and they cut away from it. Of course, leave it to the Browns to find a Cleveland way to end that game. Our afternoon game was Dallas vs. Carolina - for no apparent reason. Can't stand the Aikman/Buck broadcast combo, and that game was unwatchable. Why the hell does the NFL continue to push Dallas? They've been a model of suckitude for the last decade.

Can't wait to see the motor city kitties shitting the bed in prime time tonight. The last time a rookie QB got his first start against the Lions, it was Matt Ryan - who promptly threw a bomb for a touchdown on his first NFL pass.

The Lions lost 48-17, at home, to the Jets.

The fans were seen booing as they were leaving early.

Maybe it's time to join the CFL?

Even though the Jets are playing the lowly Dolphins, I'd say there is probably a 50/50 shot that the same fans that were crowning Sam Darnold's ass last Monday will be booing him before the night's over.

LOL! Vontae Davis retired at halftime yesterday.
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Buffalo Bills cornerback Vontae Davis abruptly retired at halftime of Sunday's 31-20 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, saying in a statement later that the reality had hit him, "I shouldn't be out there anymore."

Vontae used to be a Dolphin for a few years. I still remember when he got traded during the filming of Hard Knocks. Right as they were telling him, he took out his phone and wanted to call his grandmother.

Starts about 3:00.

Fitzpatrick will fall back to Earth.

Four months ago, you could have gotten 100-1 odds that Patrick Mahomes wins MVP.
