So Cock is quitting at the end of the series. 12,000 runs is pretty good.
33 seems young. And it's not like there are openers pounding down the door to replace him.

He can't bat past 15 runs anymore.

He knows it. Everyone knows it.

If his heart isn'the in it then why bother?

He's probably much happier on his farm than spending months on the road.

It’s a shame. I really thought when he gave up the captaincy that he might look to emulate gooch who piled on the runs post 35, to 40. But his game is in tatters. It’s a bit odd that he never really got better throughout his career. He’s has good and bad runs but his horrible style is as limited as ever.

That is it . He lost his mojo and he knows it. Good for him. I'll be there on Saturday so hopefully I'll see him bat.

Wasn't Gooch fuelled by the fact they he had been overlooked for so long. Like Peter Shilton.

Sporting people's careers seem to have different lives

Who knew Michael Owen would be finished by aged 26?

Giggs is probably the best comparison to Jimmy.

Broad continues to add wickets.

England will need a step change with selection soon. May be this is the start of it.

If Cook doesn't get the respect he deserves - across the board - people need to take a look at themself

Peter Shilton's international career spanned two complete decades: 1970-90

All time record appearances, 125

He only made 29 appearances in the 70s

it’s just jimmy and broad left now from the old guard - the cupboard does look pretty bare. There’s a surplus of plucky sllrounders in the middle overs and we need specialist top order batsmen and opening bowlers.
