Yep...that's a decent line up...its the Curran or Rashid conundrum that is the issue, If they drop Rashid (who is bowling well) then that makes Ali the spinner and he doesn't like bowling pressure so its Curran out for me.

Looks like India are draftring in the youngsters too.

The last time Mo bowled in Southampton he got 8 wickets.

As for Vince as opener, its his home ground i guess and it doesn't really matter. They will be 40-2 after 10 overs or so.

In the last 5 years only Root and Hameed are averaging over 40. Whatever happened to him?

He’s been doing really badly indeed. He’s playing at ni3 and was dropped to the second 11 for a bit. He’s got no runs and at Tavare speed. He’s nowhere near a come-back.

I think we’d all settle for these players averaging 33 or something if they can bat down to no9. Gone are the days when people wanted to drop collingwood for only averaging 40 and the whole top 7 averaged over 40 with like 90 centuries between them.

Root should bat a #4 and Moeen should come in and bat at #3, and tell him not to worry about bowling because Rashid is in the team. Root needs a bit of protection from the new ball, and the openers aren't going to give it to him.

I’m disappointed that Mo is going to come in at 7. Given his he’s been ducked around by England he deserves a run at 5. I’d think that 3 is too high as he’s famously loose outside off stump. That said, who knows what the batting order should be? They’re all no5 or no6 and only root looks safe at 4 and 1 to 3 might as well not be there since Trott left the side.

4-7 are the right players though, in whatever order. Malan and Pope shouldn’t be anywhere near the team and Vince neither unless he’s replacing one of the openers, as he might as well knick off for 20 as anyone else

Southampton.

Id say borderline 70oF all days, some rain, some cloud, breeze coming off the Solent

You can use that forecast for the local golf tournament

Why is it funny?

Better if they played it in Basingstoke

Hampshire, the county of Warney, Robin Smith, the White Nationalist, Peter...who?

Well we’re 4 down for fuck all as usual. England are doing their best to lose this series aren’t they? Now root has stopped scoring there’s got to be doubt over whether he’s the right man to captain?

How about Vince to open the batting and captain? Or butler with bairstow keeping the gloves?

I said Moeen would get wickets at this ground.

27 run lead, could have been worse.

Can England chase down that lead without losing 2 or 3 wickets?

Good fightback from the Poms. India have to bat last so England are probably marginally in front.

This morning session is going our way ...just....so far!

Vince what do you make of Ali coming in at 3 ?

For me it was a good call if it means Root goes on to make a score of some significance.

Jennings is still there but i'm convinced he'll be out LBW very soon sweeping like that.

Its funny you should say that...i'm having a text/messanger battle with my old Indian friend Kishore at the moment....everytime he messages me to say India are doing well they'll lose a wicket or we'll hit a 4/6....he genuinely thinks he is the one jinxing the Indian team so i spend the best part of my day coaxing him into making a comment :D

The idea that theres some Indian dude over in Mangalore getting stressed out because of my texts brings me great joy.

I think england have 4 number 6s, a number 4 and no top 3, so in that sense the batting order is irrelevant. Inevitably batting at 5 you’ll be facing a new ball.

Fair play to Mo for being up for it when everyone else is trying to hide and against sub-continent teams, in Asia, on flow pitches, it’s a good call, but obviously agaist a good pace attack he’ll be decapitated.

I really don't know Vince... I have no idea,i just have a feeling that Kohli et al could chase that down...

This series is why I love Test Cricket.....Virat in full vitriolic flow,Moeen spinning like a dervish...Butler proving critics wrong...its brilliant.

Pissed off though that we lose wickets just before closes off sessions...theres a lesson for England there...block,block,block.

It’s got to be chaseable hadn’t it? But we’ve got to be favourite with 6 bowlers. We just need one to do something good and not just lob pies to the best batsman in the world.
