The Gretzky Trade

Post by sodelicious » Thu Aug 09, 2018 8:18 pm

30 years ago today, Wayne Gretzky was traded to the Kings, and changed hockey forever.

He blamed it on his wife wanting to 'act'.

The United States welcomes the entire Gretzky family with open arms.

I'm not a hockey fan but one thing that I remember about him is that he's passionate about the game. He would cry when the season ended as a kid. They talked about it on NPR.

Did it change the game forever? That seems like the media consensus. I'm not really that sure I buy it. Hockey's place in North American sport is pretty much the same as it was then.

No Gretzky in LA means no Ducks, no San Jose Sharks, no Lightning, Panthers, of Coyotes. The last two for better or worse.

The bigger impact was the number of kids who took up the game in California. The LA Kings certainly got better but I don't think Florida expansion had much to do with Gretzky.

Bettman or someone like Bettman was inevitable and it wouldn't matter if Gretzky played his whole career in Edmonton. Bettman with a mandate from the owners is the one who changed the game in that regard for better or for worse. And not the game, actually, the NHL. A few extra American players in the league whoop ti do, most of the talent is still coming from Canada and then Europe.

I'm posting this here. I'm trying to get around the mods. I know Eric is a mod but seems kind of cool.

I don't mean to threadjack but there's something about it that I find very sexual. Even as a gay guy.

Is it just me.

OMG. You guys! For real. Please help me.

Why was that website a turn on for me? I'm gay FFS!

I'm thinking it's the cleavage / crack thing that transcends the gay straight boundry.

Why do we like that?

Gretzky, Bourque, Neely and Messier are the only Canadians worthy of respect.

None of that has anything to do with his ability as a player. Bruins suck. They’re a terrible organization
