Rugby 7s World Cup

The New Zealand women won their title. Now the men are about to face England in their final. Should be a good match.

The Kiwis have faded a bit under their new coach. A win here would be a great boost for morale.

Back to back World Cups for both New Zealand teams. The men put 33 points on the English, as they did in the final 5 years ago.

Yes Andy, they haven't been up to their usual high standards recently, but as it's an Olympic sport, competition is much more intense.
San Francisco put on a good tournament, something like 150,000 fans attending over the weekend.
Rugby is taking off in the USA, their first season if a professional competition just ending and due to expand over the next few years.

I saw bits of it over the last few days. It drew a pretty massive and enthusiastic crowd in SF. That's good for rugby in this non-rugby nation.

Some of it was also shown on a major network.

Good stuff, the USA now has a professional rugby competition, and do very well in 7s. Could be a powerhouse in the game.

Congrats to NZ. They won their semi's fair and square, but truth be told, both Fiji and South Africa are the best teams at 7s. Anyone who follows the world seven series kinda knows this to be as close to a fact as it comes. Some other teams might beat them every now and then, but both Fiji and South Africa need to have a bad day and their opponents a very good day for them to lose.

The beauty of the WC is that pressure is huge by design. It's once every four year, you have a bad game and you are out, end off.
Fiji and South Africa fucked up.
I thought US had the talent to actually win this, but they choked.

Yes Luz, with every game a knockout for the loser, pressure tells. NZ had a lucky escape against France, then were strong and had a better game plan to beat Fiji in the semi.

7s is such a pointless sport.

Pardon the pun.

I thought it was kind of high-scoring and exciting the first time I saw it, which was last week.

Wow, welcome back Luz.
