what is Internationally capped player?
Something in Norwegian, translated to English as something like that. Internationally capped/flagged (?) player. (football/soccer)
No idea in either language what it means.

In England a player received a cap (the actual headgear) for each game, with whatever match it was sewn on it, with the date.
Or, they used to.
They didn't wear the cap during the actual game.

Serious question. Do footballers (soccer obv not USian) give a HAT/cap of some sort to the player who did best that match, at end of game?Stephen_Dedalus wrote: ↑Mon Jun 04, 2018 2:25 pmIn England a player received a cap (the actual headgear) for each game, with whatever match it was sewn on it, with the date.

I thought I saw that on IG (but it was in Norwegian, and I don´t know Euro football too well, so want not sure about the celly)

No, not like a baseball cap.
Like a cap a chimney sweep might have worn in Victorian London.

Re: what is Internationally capped player?
Could you be thinking of a hat trick? Scoring three goals. No actual hat involved, although a bowler who took three wickets with consecutive deliveries (cricket) was once awarded a hat, whence the name.gnd wrote: ↑Wed Jun 06, 2018 3:24 pmSerious question. If you get a hat-trick in football you keep the ball.

And if you get two hat-tricks in a match, they get claimed by Harry Kane.

Chinny cunt. Have you listened to any of the Athletico Mince podcasts? Bob Mortimer does a great impression of him and Debbie Alli.

The baggy-green (look it up) is made of wool. Dunno about the rest.

Re: what is Internationally capped player?
The first hat-trick recorded was by Harry Flashman (not the arsehole who posts here under that name) and included the wicket if Dr W.G.Grace, and if I recall correctly it was at Lords. I don't remember the title of the book in which it is mentioned.Since that time (as he won a hat by getting the 3 wickets with consecutive balls), things done in threes have been called hat-tricks.

Re: what is Internationally capped player?
Re capping. Many sports award a cap to a player for their fist test,( international game against another country). Australian cricketers hold in very high regard their baggy green cap. The All Blacks award a special silver cap to players for their 100th test match. To say how many times a player has been capped is to say how many test matches they have played.

Re: what is Internationally capped player?
Although you don't say that about test cricketers, as being in the national team is full-time, whereas a new rugby team is selected for each test/series.
