40 Years of Cricket on Nine ends

Post by Red_V » Fri Apr 13, 2018 11:52 pm

Australians have grown up with the summer of cricket on channel 9 but after 40 years it will end with channel 7 and Fox Sports paying Cricket Australia 1.2 billion for the rights for the next 6 years.
Channel 7 will show the Tests, all women's cricket and 43 matches of the BBL but if you want to watch the ODI's you have to subscribe to Foxtel.Every ball of the summer and all away tours will be shown on FOX.

I hate the way sport, in general, is going. It's put me off football (which I used to love) and rugby union, to a certain extent. The only sports I really follow is rugby league and MMA. I have watched cricket over the summers, but don't know how enjoyable it will be now, depends on what the coverage will be like, I guess.

For some reason we cannot get Foxtell in our unit in the old children's hospital site at Camperdown in Sydney, looks like i have to go down the pub to watch some of the cricket.

Being a semi alcoholic i don't think it such a bad thing, but what if is pissing down here, while it is fine where ever the game is!!

Of course I grew up with the cricket on the ABC before I grew up with it on 9.

No ODI's. That's shit. What about the 20-20 internationals?

That video is actually quite good. The commentators are pretty enthusiastic. And Chappell walked!

The T20 internationals will be on FOX only.Channel 9 however have retained the rights to broadcast the T20 World Cup from England and Wales as part of the agreement struck in the last rights deal.

If it means I no longer have to listen to Taylor, Slater and some of other commentators I am all for it. And the asinine lunch break show they had. Tend to watch a lot more test than one day matches and dont watch BBL, so that works for me.

I like Taylor. He was the best Australian captain I've seen and he's decent commentator.

Dont presume things are going to better. I wouldn't be surprised if they poach at least some of the existing commentators. Looks like Steve Smith is getting a gig on Foxtel. Perhaps they might rope in Warner too.
