Australian Olympic Coverage

Post by Argonheart_Po » Sun Feb 11, 2018 12:00 pm

It’s so awful you have to watch.

Think - Ron Burgundy without the moustache but with blindingly white and weird (you just can’t stop looking at them) teeth made, it seems, from the whitest substance known to man. Then add Trump like orange skin,a bouffant do and overlay an 80s power-ballad on every single report or conversation.

If other nations are competing you wouldn’t know. It’s focussed solely on Australians.

“And now over to the finals, and good luck to our lovely Aussie ladies”.

Magnificent!

Not so different here in the Motherland....i had to endure some skiing race with the Brit commentator banging on about some cunt from Scotland finishing 7th.

Worst coverage in the English-speaking world. I'll just watch the results on the internet.

Yes it is biased and cringeworty, but most countries coverage is about the same, but Australia's may be more so, but i do think some of the blame must go to the broadcaster and it might be down to channel 7 and their effort to talk up the games,

But yes, it is biased and cribgeworthy, so what?

Nobody I know gives a shit. But of course there's The Poo who probably pays an assistant for hourly updates on all possile misdemeanours and indiscretions.

Oh look, the Strayan luge team are sneaking pies and vegemite sangers whilst competing. Time to bone up, have another wank and add to the fatberg blockage in his french drain.

Apparently there's a rapidly spreading left wing group think canker amongst sport's commentators nowadays as well.

CBC can't be as bad as 7. CBC is at least the national broadcaster.

I do remember being in Montreal one year and watching the basketball coverage. The US beat the bollocks out of some EU country, but the highlight reel was pretty much the only baskets the EU team put in. If you didn't know the score, you would have thought the other team won. Pretty much like the ABC, CBC, BBC, RTE and SABC in their regular news coverage.

What's wedged in my head is the collective idiocy of the national broadcasters of the Anglosphere. I was intrigued by the basketball game because it was the 4th country I'd watched the summer olympics in.

Do you not know that Australia have ski-fields in the high country of Victoria and New South Wales [2 Australian States] Lost?

It appears here is another subject you know very little about.

Son, I have checked out every Australian ski area outside of Van Diemen's land. Although I saw them in the summer and fall, none imo can qualify as an adequate half-pipe training center. So I repeat that he must have trained in Whistler or NZ.

I even rode the chair lift at Thredbo so I could tackle Mount K. in my flip flops and shorts.

Even the "elite" media are nationalistic dopes. Look at "The Conversation". What does it take to make a Scotty James? $$$$$$$$$. The only question is who's $$$$$.

Every country I've ever watched the Olympics in has focused almost exclusively on their own athletes. I lived in Switzerland and it was all Swiss skiers, all the time. Lived in Australia and heard "and it's gold, gold, gold for Australia!" constantly. If they weren't currently winning they'd replay something they had already won. Have watched US channels on cable and they barely even show gold medal events if there are no Americans in them.

You pretty much have to expect that.

Australia is different. An Aussie winning the bronze gets press at the expense of people who actually finished higher. I've never seen this anywhere else.

My first exposure to foreign Olympic coverage was the 04 Athens games on the Beeb. I was used to focus on athletes=medal winning. All these Brits the Beeb was focusing on kept finishing 14th, 17th, oooh 8th top 10! But the locals said just you wait wait wait until Paula Radcliffe runs the marathon. Best in the world. And there she is sitting on the side of the road sobbing instead of running. Choke job.
