For virtually nothing. Jeter was a great player but is proving to be a truly shorty owner. Like Michael Jordan I guess.

They're just looking to dump all that salary.

Just got rid of Dee Gordon too.

I'm guessing that they want to rebuild from the ground up like the Astros.

Jeter is probably trying to rebuild the Yankees he knew -- home grown players that were the core of the team for a generation. Dumping big contracts, focusing on your minor league system, and storing up money to pay for your core stars later on is not such a bad plan (if that is, in fact, the plan).

You still need to field a team and convince people to watch you. Jeter can take a loss for a couple of years
