Are Leeds...

Post by kotagiri_tea_planter » Mon Feb 11, 2019 3:00 pm

DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMED?????????

They were top of the championship going into the holiday period. The fluked a couple of last gasp wins at the start of that period, but since then they've lost 4, after losing only 3 going into the holiday stretch, and only won 2 and are no longer top o' the table. Are they choking it away? Or will they finally get back to the Premier League, where obviously a massif cloob like Leeds fookin' belong!

Its a strange situation....they seemed to be cruising back to the premier league and then it started going tis-up...i'd really like to see them back in the top flight.

I'm going to say yes, they'll make it.

Yeah, I think they'll get promoted, even if it's through play offs.

Then we'll NEVER hear the end of how they DESERVE to be back in the top league, and what a huuuuge club they are, etc etc etc.... Vom. Dirty dirty Leeds.

'scummy' fans. Maybe the worst.

But, the Premiership could do with a livener.

I'm saying they'll be down there for another two decades

Yeah, Leeds do need at a shot to be in the Premier, but really don't know how long they will be up there.

They are like a lot of medium sized clubs, they are really only treading water in the Premier League aren't they?

1:0 in the first leg play-off semi against Derby is a start.

They should have nailed an automatic promotion spot and be on some beach right now, but Leeds tend to start seasons brightly and then fade, so it’s not a surprise that they’re torturing themselves and the fans.

They lead in beating Derby at home, i do hope they do go through.

Because in the old days the team that run third would play next year in the premier, and Leeds did run third.

So despite my team the Baggies being in the mix, i say.......................................GO LEEDS!!!

Derby won the old First Division under the supreme tutelage of Brian Clough, but you wouldn't know that. I'd wager Clough means nothing to you either.

They have a great intelligent manager in Fatboy Lampard. Who probably has more school qualifications than us lot all combined

Sooooooooooooo fucking dooooooooooooomed!!!!!!!!!!

The Damned United was ace. I dragged some non sockah fans to it instead of watching whatever the geriatric Liam Neeson flick of the month was and they liked it. Michael Sheen’s carved our a decent career for himself since then.

But back to the point at hand...

Theatre aside, Michael Sheen had a pretty good career before.

Earlier roles being:
*Tony Blair in The Queen
*David Frost in Frost/Nixon.

The Damned United was him returning to the UK to do a smaller local film.

But, he was perfect as Brian Clough.

And Clough would have laughed his socks off at last night.

Clough is like Churchill to me. Funny in anecdotes, almost certainly a cunt in real life.

The Dammed United is a great fiction film.

Fiction like The Hobbit, with Martin Freeman?

No one has ever suggested it's a documentary, Meetfree, but the nuts n bolts happened.

And Clough was a serious alcoholic of course.

The funny part about the match was that Leeds were 2-0 up on aggregate, with an away goal, and still fucked it up.

Touchy, Dead legs..? It's a fictionalised account of real events. Not difficult to grasp.
Stephen Graham as Billy Bremner is ace, obv.
Now watching The Virtues, which is good so far. Makes me want to watch This Is England again.

It’s JUST like supporting Ajax in the Champions League. Sometimes the best, brightest, most talented team in years can be cruelly denied by a mediocre club. Football is cruel.

Leeds have been bottling it for the last few games, it's not a case of just one. Compare them to Ajax; didn't they win the league outright...?

It's a good comparison as how the match swung over two legs.

Although, Ajax were 3-0 up on aggregate, with 75% of the tie gone.

There were some good old fashioned 70s tackles going in the match. I approved.

I expect he’ll leave, but I hope he stays. He’s entertaining, and Leeds have played great, attacking football for much of the season. When they were in the top flight under George Graham they played such boring football that a fan went to Elland Road wearing a heart rate monitor to show it never crept above 70 bpm - fuck that.

Yeah, good to have a manager who stamps their personality on the team, however that is done. For better or worse.

I'm talking about Bielsa, not Graham. That's too "worse"

West Ham havent had that for nearly 20 years now, since Harry.

Fun Fact:
Between 1902 and 1989, 87 years, West Ham had only 5 managers.

I know....go and check it.

And one was poached to be England manager.
(Ron Zzzzz. Although it was the 70s, so, you know)

I went on a Leeds Supporters bus, once, with friends who were Leeds fans. To watch Leeds vs Liverpool. Liverpool won, I had to hide my scarf on the return journey back to Scarborough. That was during the Billy Bremner, Allan Clarke years. When Billy and Kevin Keegan got sent off during a charity shields match at Wembley. It was Billy's fault.

I'm a teeny weeny bit sad that Leeds aren't going up. Just a teeny weeny bit.

You're right! Actually, my Yorkshire accent nearly got me barred access from the Arkles pub close to Anfield ground. I was with my sister, we were going in to watch the Liverpool vs Man U game, there weren't many others in. Fortunately, my sister had her library card on her, managed to convince the bar manageress that we lived locally.

My brother was a Leeds fan, and it was easier to get to Elland Road to watch the two teams than it was to Anfield, so I've been to that ground more than any other apart from Carrow Road. Always was a shithole with horrible fans.

The next time they had posters, Spike was billed as:

Still, a good test, which is what you want from a warm up.

3-0, one to go.

Some of the Pakistani fielding was bad. I'm guessing conditions weren't great.
