I can’t see any argument, though, that restricting his access here would help, and I don’t think anyone is seriously contending that. There might have been a time when stepping away from the computer resulted in Manch drinking less; I don’t believe that is so now.
I raised that issue on about Day 1 of the Ban Manch brigade.

Yes. See my newest thread. I for real am not dunk. I stand behind every word of what I just typed.

How pompous and arrogant of posters on here to think they "deserve" a certain level of respect.

The moderation level on this branch is really zero. There is no need for moderation here.

It's stupid to think otherwise.

That's the truth of the matter.

Pretending that fucking with him on here is for his own good is utter bullshit - there are a contingent who want it for their own amusement and another who want it for their own convenience. Sometimes it's hard to tell who is in which camp.

BTW Matt. I tried calling you and thanking you for coming to my defense.

The call didn't go through but you are a true friend and I just want to let you know that.

True friends. We don't get many of them in our life times do we? I can count them on one hand.

Family is a different story. I would hope most of us have decent family.

But thanks Matt. You will always have a friend in me and reach out if I can do anything for you.

Hi Manch, sorry I have been on a plane all day.

You’re right that I don’t really know what you’re going through, and I can’t offer sensible advice on dealing with addiction issues.

But the right medical specialists can which is why, despite the cost, I really think that’s where you need to go now.

I have no problem with the megathread solution. One big pile of crap is much better than a thousand little piles of crap.

Thanks Matt. I'll try and reach out to you later on. Before my UK trip.

And those of you that think I'm a scourge. The mods simply have to tell me my thread and post limitations.

In that case why don’t we make this whole forum into one big megathread

It seemed that the last few months - losing your job, losing your house, having to move, becoming completely incapacitated so you need help with everything - were rock bottom. A low enough state to do be the motivation to decide to do something about your situation. Evidently not; is the real rock bottom yet to come?

Cirrhosis of the liver should do it.

For UK posters, on Tuesday it was a year since the death of the comedian Sean Hughes.

What was he, 52?

edit -51. A few weeks short of 52.

Realistically, Manch, spending the $7000 deductible now will save you much more than that. Cost of buying booze, legal fees for when drink-related problems arise, cost of cleaning/replacing carpet, etc etc.

Also, and I might as well say this - if Pam is still willing to take you along to her church, you could do a lot worse than accept her invitation.

Thanks Matt. Yes I am willing to go along with her to services.

I shall keep an open mind.

Good for you! Let me know how it goes.

BTW I’m having dinner tomorrow night with Paul - you might remember, the guy I was travelling with when I met up with you and Cummy in LA , 3 years ago, and then he visited you in New Hampshire. He’s been living in the UK for a couple of years with his new partner, who has about as many tattoos and piercings. But now they’ve come back to Aus.

Thanks, I will pass that on.

Personally he’s doing much better, in a very stable relationship with his partner. Financially a bit rough - things didn’t work out well with his job in England, and they’ve had to come home in a hurry without much cash.

That's too bad.

I'm really glad he's partnered though. That makes all the difference in the world.

I really love this ad BTW. It's a man and a woman but it really resonates with me.. Love is love. It could be two men as well.

It's treating him differently than any other poster who is permitted to post here. Which is pretty extraordinary that it took, what, 12 years before this occurred. I think it's pretty arrogant to presume that we know one way or the other whether posting here hurts, harms or does nothing either way for him.
Is he the first? Saffer was, imo. And it was the right thing to do, then. It's the right thing to do now. Ok, that doesn't mean that Saffer and Manch were/are treated exactly equally, they're not. The point is, they both were/are accommodated, as best they could be. As for if this place is helping/hurting/harming/neutral, we don't know. We MIGHT know if Manch comes out the other end, in a job, off the booze, etc., and he tells us how this place helped/hindered him. That still won't necessarily tell us/be reliable, though. He might be lying, mistaken.

We definitely won't know what part this place played, if he dies BUT, people, Manch especially, shouldn't blame anyone, here. Manch is ultimately responsible for himself.

I hope he improves, I think he can, and hopefully, if he's to be believed, he's trying and it is baby steps.

Yeah, I have been improving in baby steps.

To be honest I don't know if this forum is playing a role but just being with family, taking the dog for walks, helping mom chop veggies etc. is taking my focus off booze.

I can't believe how many drinks I dump out.
