So long, Guvner

Post by justinian » Sun Jan 21, 2018 5:55 pm

Guvner, aka Curtis, passed away last night after a hell of a fight with cancer. Incognita, Cowtown, and I had the opportunity to meet Curtis, his brother Rick, and a handful of friends and colleagues a few years ago in Chicago; there was a long weekend of booze, bocci ball, and board games.

Since then, Curtis and I have stayed in touch on social media. We both have sons around the same age, and most of our interactions involved not so humble brags about our boys. No doubt, Curtis loved his “Man Cub” Declan with every ounce of his being. He was so proud of all of his accomplishment, and from what I can see, Declan is a remarkable young man: an amazing legacy to a fantastic and loving father. Rest well, my friend.

If you all want to comment here, I’ll share this link with Rick.

Oh this is so sad. I was lucky enough to meet Guv (and Rick) when he was in London. He was excellent company. It's hard to imagine him gone. He was far, far too young.

Oh no. I know a lot of us were worried about him. Rest in peace, Curtis. All my warm thoughts to Declan and Rick and the rest of his family.

I'm so sorry to hear of his passing. He was much too young. My thoughts are with his family at this time.

Ahhhh shit, I too met up with Guv and Rick in London (it was a very pleasant, if somewhat boozy, evening). I have a feeling it started at The Victoria and progressed through several other pubs in the area.

Am really sorry to hear about his passing too.......

I'm a big fan of Guvner so this news truly sucks....i remember when he posted on here that he had cancer and his main reaction was "Shit ,I have a son"

Was Guvner a Brit?...he wrote like one.

Will be much missed.

I'm pretty sure Guvner was a Canadian. And yes he was much too young. So sad for his family.

Thank you for letting us know, Justinian. I'm so, so sorry to hear the news. He was far too young (don't know exactly shunter, but in his mid 30s maybe? Possibly 40?) and he was so dedicated and devoted to his son. My deepest sympathies to his family.

Curtis was a really decent and good guy, I enjoyed meeting him and Rick in London a few years ago. (Rick - I'm the blonde one who cuddled the big dogs with you!)

Rick (and the rest of the family) - I'm so sorry for your terrible loss. His poor son having to grow up without such a loving father is incredibly sad, I hope you and your twin brother are able to keep a flow of stories about Curtis and your childhoods for him, he'll need uncles more than ever.

Very sad, my thoughts and best wishes to his family, and always tragic when kids are left behind, I hope his kids have lots of loving family around them.

Another one of us gone. So many of us have fallen over the years. I have definitely lost way mor here than in real life over the close to 2 decades, I guess that makes me very lucky IRL, but it does bring home your own mortality to you doesnt it.

"I really don't deserve this"

I remember this from his last post, that I saw, about six months ago.

I wasn't worried for him as i assumed with him being young that this would hold him in good stead for the battle ahead.

Makes you think.

RIP mate.

This is terrible, huge sympathies to his family.

I just want to say, hopefully without seeming an arse, that’s Curtis didn’t ‘lose a battle’, he didn’t ‘fight for as long as he could’, an incurable disease killed him.

Cancer is a cunt, and no one beats through choice. it’s just luck of the draw with what you get and how it gets treated. You survive, you’re fucking lucky.

No one deserves it, no one loses.

Lots of love Guv xxx

I enjoyed his running exploits so I just assumed he would be in good shape for treating the cancer. So sad to hear this and that a teenaged son lost his dad. Hits close to home.
