Jono In Adelaide

Post by Purps » Fri Sep 05, 2014 9:38 am

I woke up to the worst news on FB today. Jono has died. We have lost one of the finest members we have. This is just terrible news. I was not lucky enough to have met him in person but we were planning to when he came back to Aelaide. He sent me such kind messages after the sudden death of my husband. The world has lost a truly great man. Just devastated today. :(

He was someone I never met, or really interacted with much, but we had quite a few mutual friends on FB so I'd always see his comments and he seemed such a decent guy. I remember him back from the tree days, as well as his posts here.

It just popped up on my feed due to a mutual friend commenting, and like you I was stunned. Far, far too soon to lose someone who seemed so lovely.

I just posted my version without seeing your post, Purps. I messaged his brother in law, when I hear back, I'll post an update. I met Jono at a pissup at Patrik's place and I can honestly say, he was one of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure to meet. Such a total gentleman.

This is awful news. I never met Jono, but he always came across as very kind and intelligent poster.
I also remember him saying that he had struggled with depression... :(

That's terrible to read! I know he was quite depressed after his mom had passed, and maybe had battled some depression on and off in the past before that, and I believe was late (later than perhaps he wanted) to finally come out. I also remember he was trying to get medical (drug help, don't know about counseling et al) help and had thought he was doing okay. When flying into Adelaide after his mother had died, I had PMed him a month or so before going, offering to help him with anything when I was there with his mom's passing; never heard back from him...and I think it was a pretty long while before I saw him again back on the Stew.

But when he was back, was great to "see" him again online. I remember Jono as always a poster of reason, just a straight up kinda guy. A guy you'd wanna have a beer with, want in your circle. Fritz 101 and Dallan were two that were part of all of each other's on travels to SEA. I also remember Jono as a sense of reason when it came to the whole thaires-affair; never passing too much if any judgement. I admired that in him.

I'm not a religious person, but liked the reading of this poem at my brother's memorial; I think of this Jono too in this one:

god's garden

God looked around his garden,
And found an empty place,
He then looked down upon the earth
And saw your tired face.
He put his arms around you
And lifted you to rest.
God's garden must be beautiful
He always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering
He knew you were in pain.
He knew that you would never
Get well on earth again.
He saw the road was getting rough
And the hills were hard to climb.
So he closed your weary eyelids
And whispered, 'Peace be Thine'.
It broke our hearts to lose you
But you didn't go alone,
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home

Also Purps, sorry about your loss. I had heard about it via Ms Wilster and her social media when we were away a couple weeks ago.
Scrubb makes note of my Stew and Thorn Tree posting history: I had no issues with what you said, the problem was that I couldn't figure out what it was (you said).

This is a shock. He was a good-natured and articulate presence online, and had been around the LP/TT/YC for many years.

I hope we were a pleasant respite from whatever despair he was feeling.

Please pass on our condolences if you are messaging his family.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I was just thinking about him this week. Jono and I had joined a fitness buddies site a while back, intending to keep each other on track.

Rest in peace, Jono, and my condolences to his friends and family.

What a tragedy. Jono was an incredibly decent guy, I never heard him say a mean word to anyone on here, even when in disagreement over a topic. I think he was in his early 40's, and as others have mentioned, the death of his mom was very hard for him. He disappeared from this site for a couple of years around the time she died, and following her death, and he did make references to his own depression and agoraphobia. But it seemed like he had pulled out of all that to a large extent a few years ago, and was doing much better, and he had been posting consistently over the last few years. And then he stopped posting again several months back, and now this. So sad.

This is just a fleeting return, in response to an email I received today from Bashtard, informing me of this awful news.

Again, I never met him in person, but, online, we went back years, to the Lonely Plagiarist days, which seems like a different era now. More recently, though still some months back, we exchanged messages on here regarding the loss of my son, depression, etc. He was very kind and understanding.

If any of his family reads this, I offer my deepest sympathies and am extremely upset by the news.

RIP Jono. :(

What distressing news - I knew he had struggled with depression in the past, but his recent facebook posts didn't come accross as troubled. He'd had a great trip to SEA in the past few months, where he had close friends, and I think he'd just bought a house, too. I am so sad that he could not find peace any longer - he was a lovely person.

In this place of shit-slinging, Jono rose above it.

He was quite open that he had some issues and was on xanax and/or valium, but I thought he was doing well, went back to school, etc.

This is miserable news.

Can we rename this forum to be both in his and Albo's honor?

As others have said - he was always above the shit-slinging. I could never figure out how he did that!!

He was one of VERY few posters who seemed to be liked and respected by anyone and everyone.

I thought he was doing well, also. He always seemed very chipper when we touched base on Facebook...
