Really sad news.

Of course I remember her. Billet was the one who sent me a PM on Thorntree, inviting me here when the Stew had only just started.

My sincere condolences to her loved ones.

When I re-joined joined the Stew, I took a look around and found the Alan Bodine thread. Enough said.

Wow, this is very sad news indeed. Billet was a class act and a wonderful and decent person. My condolences to her family and to all those who were fortunate enough to know her.

Ibid, thanks for letting us know. Even though she was private, she was a big presence to a lot of people here.

Agreed. One of the few people here with whom you could hold completely opposite views, and never feel any enmity.

Wow, damn.

Sorry to hear that

I disagreed with her on just about everything politically but got along with her socially which was a testament to her character, even exchanged a few snail mails.

I just saw this thread and am very saddened by this news.
I have nothing but respect for Billet, a class act in every regard.
Thank you Ibid for letting us know, and my sincere condolences for your loss.

We exchanged many friendly PMs back in the day, then lost touch when she started her site. We had some laughs over the only thing we disagreed on- wearing shoes in the house of all dumb things. She followed the US tradition of leaving her boots on indoors, I followed the Canadian one of always removing them. We compromised: if she ever came to visit me (and she was welcome anytime), she could leave her boots on in my home. But her horse would have to wait outside, with or without shoes. I don't know why that was funny for us, or why I think of it now.
This is a sad day.
RIP Billet

I think she was born in the mid 1950ties, so she would have been 56,57.

Billet was someone I would really have liked to meet in real life. The little details she gave about her life seemed very interesting and made me want to see what she was all about and ride around with her in her truck for a day. What can you say about her: nice, fair, tough, thoughtful, a get it done kind of person. Though we came from different sides of the political spectrum, I respected her a lot and often thought if everyone could be like her, this country would have no problems! Plus, based on the pictures I saw, she was quite beautiful, and of course, six feet tall(!)
It sucks to have to write this now, after she's gone. I really don't think I'm ever going to have the chance to meet anyone quite like her.

She will be missed.

I've just seen this. Very sad news... Billet and I shared many posts on how to get rid of snakes 'round the house. She did indeed favour the 'shoot first ask questions later' approach. A position I can appreciate, even as an avowed ant-gun sort.

It´s really sweet, kind all the lovely things said here, and that so many of you cared enough to make this thread, say condolences, etc. And sorry for the loss of such a beloved poster, person.

Billet was calm and friendly. We need people like that to balance out the members who like being antagonistic (like me). She had one of the best avatars. I figured she had just drifted away like many others.

Billet was one of the gang of four (or was it six) who started this place up the night Talk Politics was shut down

She was a straight talker, but she had a heart of gold, what Billet and Incognita did when Albo died showed me that this place was more than an internet board, we really were a community.

Very sad news for mortals - Billet was the heart and soul of the old TPWDY. The woman didn't know how to make an enemy. She'd say her piece, withdraw, and no matter who said what, she'd never take the bait or show any sign of resentment toward anyone. A model of self-control, yet compassionate at the same time. She'd reach out whenever she thought someone was in pain. Beautiful woman, RIP.
